Separate TTD dress?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if anyone else bought a second dress for the TTD? After seeing all the great pictures on this site I really want to do it! But my mom would not be too happy if I did it in my actual dress, and I'm not so sure I want to use that one either.

Would it be weird to order a second one (hopefully cheap off of ebay, prom racks or something) to use for the TTD session?

And for those who used your actual dress... was the dress pretty much ruined afterwards? or was it okay after dry cleaning? I know I will never be wearing it again... but it's just one of those sentimental things.

I know this has been discussed extensively, but with search being wonky...

Many girls have used their real dresses for TTD and the dresses were fine. The exception to the rule is a silk dress, which will be ruined. I bought a dress on Ebay - not a wedding dress, but white and flowy. I know Tami got a DB dress on Ebay pretty cheap also. I think if you want to save your wedding dress, then getting a seperate TTD dress is totally understandable. Mine was about $80 - which was 100% justifiable to me :)

I wore my actual dress the day after for my trash the dress.. I bought mine on e-bay from a bridal salon but I never went into it thinking my daughter would wear my wedding dress.. I gave it a rinse after but haven't yet had it drycleaned.. (it's it my closet taking up space). My mom's dress was white velvet (now yellow with age) and I wanted to incorporate it into my day but didn't for different reasons. I hope to make something out of my dress but for now I have those great memories and photos of fun in the sun after the greatest plunge of them all.. marriage....besides, my husband accidentally stepped on my dress (among 10 or so other people) and ripped the back.. it was still the best night of my life... so far....

I wore two different dresses...you can see them in the slideshows in my sig below.

I kinda did it backwards. I bought a dress, but decided it wasn't formal enough so I bought anothe dress. The first dress became my TTD dress. I totally could have worn my original dress though. My TTD dress wasn't wrecked at all. I just rinsed it out in the tub after we got back to the hotel and you'd never know the difference- we rolled around in the sand, rode horses and everything...

I bought my TTD at the Black House White Market or whatever it's called. It's more of a slipdress and flowy. Kind of looks like a nightie actually. I'm taking it to my seamstress so she can sew another layer in. Don't want a see through dress in the water!! It was like 50% so it ended up being around $90!! I'll post pics of it after I get it hemmed :)

I used my dress, was going to buy a new one but thought "why waste the money".... My dress wasn't ruined at all, i think rolling in the water actually cleaned it. It had some sand in it but didn't ruin it. I'm happy I did it....would def. do it again :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
