Cleaning tips

Ok ladies ever since I have moved into a new apartment I have been cleaning like a mad woman. It seems like no matter what I do, I can't keep the apt. clean (read: I clean, FI makes it dirty again).

My biggest problem is that our bedroom furniture is this slick wood and it gets dusty in literally minutes. I use Pledge on the wood but literally an hour later I can see a thin layer of dust! It drives me insane! A friend of mine told me to use Pledge and then use a dryer sheet and it usually soaks up dust. Yeah that hasn't worked too well for me. I also recently purchase the Sharper Image Ionic Breeze in the hopes that it would suck up some of the dust. Does anyone have any good tips on how to counteract dust?

Also, what do you guys use to clean the stovetop? FI loves cooking and he makes a disastrous mess. It seems no matter how much I scrub I can't get some of the stuff off the stove tops.

Please help!

Glenda, I must admit that I am the messy one in our house. But I try to clean up everything that gets messy as I go, ESPECIALLY the stove. I have found this cleaner that is made for George Forman grills, and it does wonders on our stove top. I am always spilling stuff or smearing stuff on it by accident, and this George Forman spray does a great job. We tried many other products before we found this -including the easy off bam i'm sad to say, and it does the best job.

We also have a very dusty apartment no matter how much we clean. We live in a loft style condo building, so the exposed ceiling I think is the culprit. There's nothing we can figure out to solve the dust problem, but if you have the ability to change your AC/furnace filters, switch to a HEPA filter, and that has seemed to help a little.

for the stove:

DAWN POWER DISSOLVE

I kid you not, this shit is da bomb and beats every single thing I've tried in the past. When we moved my parents into the nursing home and had to clean their house so it could sell. My 85 year old father was trying to clean (with bad eyesight) as well as cook, run errands, laundry, take care of my mom, etc.... so the thing that was at the bottom of his priorities was cleaning.

I mean, like solid black grease build-up from about 2 years of use, there was mold on the brick interior walls in the basement, food stuck in the metal sink, and MASSIVE rust stains in the bathrub/toilet because of hard water buildup.

I spray some of the dawn on an area, let it sit for about 5 minutes, and it barely takes any muscle to get a stain to lift away. I've never seen anything like this stuff. Just make sure you use cleaning gloves because this stuff is STRONG and will dry your hands out really bad overnight.

The only trick I have to offer for cleaning the stove is that I try to wipe it off when it is still semi-warm (don't let the gook dry) and it makes clean up much easier.

I know what you mean about the dust - we have 2 cats and a dog and the hair is uncontrollable! The dog doesn't shed, but the cat hair drives me insane. And I even have a Dyson Pet but it seems like as soon as I suck it up the cat is cleaning and shedding some more! muscle.gif

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
