Las Palapas and Shangri La Caribe Closed?

Recommended Posts

hi - i keep received conflicting information about these two beachfront properties in northern PDC. some have them both closed already, others have one or the other closed, some have them open through the end of 08. just wondering if anyone has more concrete info...can't seem to get a response from either property (which could be a sign!)

Al Cielo will be open until the end of 2008! The lease was extended through December. So maybe you should go with that option and pick a hotel for everyone to stay at elsewhere? The WC, Donaji is really sweet. My guests are all staying at a mega-resort - Grand Riviera Maya Princess / Grand Sunset Princess b/c the rates were so low it was too hard to pass up and b/c I have so many, it made it easier (expecting btwn 80 and 110 at this point). And it seems nice and got good food reviews. But there are other cuter options...

Another option, though further away, is Ana y Jose beach club. It is really nice, but just far away - in rustic Tulum. I think Shangri La is planning on reopening down there someday in the future. I didn't want to wait that long though.

There is also a place called Tres Rios that seems kinda cool and naturey that is opening this summer I think.

And lastly, there is a place called Petite Lafitte which includes breakfast and dinner I think, but is not AI, and I believe they do weddings. It was too small for my group sadly, but it is cute and not mega if that is what you're going for.

Las Palapas wrote me back to say that they aren't closing until August '08, maybe later. Not sure when you want to get married, but that gives you a little more time. You should write them. I'm a little sad to find this out now, but I guess for just a little more $ my guests are getting AI, so that is nice. But the palapas look so cute!

Thanks SO much for passing along all of this information! We ARE looking for a more intimate spot for our ceremony and reception (as opposed to a big resort). We were thinking of getting married in January or February '09, but if Al Cielo is really staying open until the end of the year, we might considering moving our date up to November '08. I'll give them a call soon...

Can't thank you enough for the other location suggests you made, too...I'll look into those, as well.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
