I actually decided on 3 for our ceremony, they said sunset was around 530, so I figured a half an hour for all of the ceremony stuff, I can do the cocktail hour til 430 and then do some pictures, or even a little before that. Just my luck someone will spill something on my dress!

Who knew the time was so important. When we were first told that the latest we could do it was 4:00 (the judge was double booked) I was a bit bummed. Turns out, it worked perfectly.

I got up at a reasonable hour, went for a walk on the beach with my husband, had brunch with my bridesmaids, headed off to get my hair done at 11:30, swooped into the Hilton at 1:00 for makeup, and got back to Casa del Mar with just enough time to get ready at a relaxed pace before the photographer got there at 3:00. After the ceremony, we hung out with everyone for about a half hour before the posed pictures started. The sunset was at 5:45 that day.

It worked perfectly.

I forgot to add a couple of things.

We did the "Romantic Dinner on the Beach"-it was extra $$ but I thought it would be cute to bring the top of our wedding cake and enjoy it after all of our guests left us:)

Well, here is the deal. Ambiance-Awesome! Service-pretty good-the guy was new to the whole thing and was sooooo nervous that I felt bad for him-he did a good job but it was weird! We are sitting there trying to eat and talk and all we could do was laugh because this poor guy is standing about 4 ft. off from us waiting for us to finish each course! WEIRD!! We felt like we had to eat super fast to get him out of our way!!

The food was pretty good but Dreams does not have food down to a science yet. He kept walking back to the restaurant to get our food-which was not close and then he brought it out on a tray-but it wasn't covered-so by the time it got to our mouth it was luke warm or cold! Otherwise the food would've been pretty good-warm that is.

If you have dinner at the Seaside Grill one night- you HAVE to request the Flaming Mexican Coffee. It was FABULOUS!! I even took a little video of our waiter preparing it-soooooo cool!! I'll never find that in VA!!! It was really delicious!!

I would definately do a Mariachi again. it's the whole Mexico feel etc and they were good! mI thought way worth the money! After the ceremony we did family and group pics immediately (4pm worked wonderfully by the way) then they all strolled over to the cocktail part of the reception that started at 5pm and the Mariachi was playing when they arrived. It was perfect timing. We stayed behind and did our pics but told the photographer we didn't want to miss the Maricahi-she accommodated nicely!

Rebecca-you were probablyright on with using Mariana as much as possible. I guess I just assumed the hotel catered special to wedding people and their guests on the day of-guess I was wrong! Oh-well everything else went soooo smoothly-to only have that complaint for the day is not too bad!!!

Anyway, I'm off:) Feel free to ask more questions.

I do have a price list for MexSun-I will post as soon as I find it!

Cheers!

Meahgan thanks for your review! it has been very helpful! I was debating on the mariachi band and I definitely think i'm going to get one! I'm so confused about the time and now nervous because i was told the sun was going to set at 8pm. so our ceremony was set for 6:30 but now i feel like that is wrong and we will have no pictures in the light! I better figure this out!

Check the sunset via the sunset predictor (I think I saw a link to that on the site awhile back). If it is 8:00 then you'll be fine so long as you aren't having mass.

In Mexico, the civil services last 20 minutes. So that gives you plenty of time.

Also, check with your photographer. Give him/her the sunset time and they will be able to tell you (given your wedding location) if the light will work based upon where they like to take pictures. They have all worked at these locations so many times it's really pretty easy for them (at least Dino knew exactly which parts of the hotel would have really good light before the ceremony so the day before he walked me through where we would go to maximize time).

Natalie, our wedding is June 5th and it was figured that sunset will be at about 8:00 so we set our ceremony time for 6:00 that gives us plenty of time to have pictures with light and as the sunsets. So you should be ok.. maybe try to push it forward 15 minutes, but ask your photograher like Natasha said, they will have a better idea based on that time of year.

Thanks everyone for the advice! I think I will do 6:00, since we are just having a spiritual ceremony! I think Juan said 6 was better than 6:30! Thanks again

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
