Meahgan's Wedding & Dreams Resort Review

OK-so here I go:)

We were married at Dreams Resort Nov.11, 2006 at 4pm.

Dreams- A+/A- Dreams was great for almost everything! We loved the people that were working at the various bars/restaurants etc. The grounds were beautiful and for the most part everyone was very accommodating. We had some issues with the way we were "treated" though. On the day of the wedding I had myself, my "girls" my mom, my nieces etc all in my room getting ready and we wanted some champagne sent to the room-they wouldn't do it!! I was sooooooo annoyed that I called the GM of the hotel to my room. He came as I was sitting there having my hair, nails, and makeup done, looking at me as if I was the biggest B for bothering him, but I was like listen-we have booked 25 rooms at this hotel (which is AI) and we are getting married here-if we want a couple of bottles of champagen sent to the room then just do it!! He said he would but acted like he didn't care. Apparently my husband to be was downstairs at the same time asking for champagen to be sent up-kinda funny:) So, we did get the champagne but it was a hassle!! They just didn't treat us like we brought this large group to their hotel for our wedding-it was kinda disappointing! 1 day our room wasn't even cleaned and the GM swore to me that rooms were cleaned daily-I had to restate that ours wasn't one day and our guests were getting better treatment than we were-HUGE rooms, animal towels, rose petals etc-we didn't get any of that until the night of our wedding!!! I was just annoyed at it!

The Explorers Club was great for the people who brought kids with them. The kids LOVED it and could've cared less where there parents were-until they closed it for 3 days and didn't open a room in the hotel to host it at. They were spraying for termites or something so they just closed it down! This was why I picked Dreams-family oriented with a kids club! You don't just close it down you rearrange so the guests can still utilize the service-so annoying!!!!!!

Food-at our reception-was FABULOUS!!! The rest of the time-good but not great. Portofino was the best in my opinion-and breakfast was always good too:) There is poolside lunch service which I didn't know about until 1/2 way through our stay-but it was decent too.

Marianna-She was not the original coordinator that I had when I started all of this. She was great though! She was very well organized and is always around-she will help w/anything you need!! I started with Ericka, and 3 days before I left for Mexico she informed me that she was leaving the hotel before I would arrive and that she gave all of my info to Marianna! I freaked out but it all worked out great!!

I actually was able to meet Rebecca from this group while I was there too! It was soo funny-I saw this girl at the desk and from her pic on here I knew it was her-she was married the day after us:)

OK on with the rest of my vendors (which I hired all on my own-did not use the hotel except for flowers-that were included in my wedding pkg)

Outside Coordinator- A+ Coca (Georgina Espinoza-Cabo Dream Weddings)

She was FABULOUS-knows what she's doing and has great taste!! She actually had the blood test people meet us at the hotel to do our blood tests-a little bit extra $$ but WAY worth it!!! She also knew all the people I hired-for the most part-so it was easy for her to communicate with them:)

Her contact info: coca@cabodreamweddings.com

Hair and Makeup-A++++ MexSun-Ask for Neysa!! She was great! I had a trial run and then she came day of too. She speaks English, is from CO, is very nice, and does a FABULOUS job! The owner is Kelli Castineiras-also speaks English and is awesome as well! They come to you or you can go to them for cheaper prices. I didn't want to deal with leaving the resort so I had them come to us. They will bring as many helpers as you need for other gils' hair, nails etc. too. Conatct info: kellicastineiras@hotmail.com

Mariachi-A+ Mariachi Los Cabos-They were great! We had them for 1hr during the cocktail part of our reception-great entertainment-and very talented! Worth the money (500.00 for 1 hr)! Their contact info is Jose Luis Gonzalez: mariachiloscabosi@hotmail.com

Cake- A+ Dessert Diva-Jennifer Hatton. She took my picture an created exactly as I wanted it! It was perfect and she has LOTS of connections-that is how I found Coca:) It looked just as I imagined it would:) I was very pleased! her contact info is: chefhatton@hotmail.com

DJ- Antares/Yeyo-A++++++++ I can't begin to say how much fun my reception was-did you see the pics I posted of everyone wearing the chair bows on their heads??! Nobody sat down! It was 3 straight hours of dancing!! Antares was supposed to do my reception but he had another wedding (Janet Daly's) so he had one of his counterparts do it. Yeyo was our DJ-and he was fabulous!! Highly reccommended!! They are 200.00 per hour-and worth it! Contact info is: antares@systemasoundcontrol.com

Photographer-Gilda Badillo A++++ I really liked her and wish I had hired her for longer because we did sparklers at the end and the hotel next door did HUGE fireworks that I wish she could've taken pics of-but oh well! We hired her for 2 1/2 hrs and she just snapped photo after photo. She's very into candid photos so the only disappointment is we didn't have any front posed pics where we weren't laughing or staring into each other's eyes etc. Other than that she was great!! Our wedding was on Sat. and she had her assistant bring us a whole hard copy album on Thursday before we left w/ a DVD of EVERY pic she took w/ out copyright so we could do with them as we wanted-which for the price was AWESOME!! We paid 650.00 for 2 1/2 hrs. Highly reccommended! Her contact info is gildaphoto@yahoo.com

So, all in all it was FABULOUS!! We had a great time and would do it all again every year til the end of time!! The weather was awesome too! I want to go back because we only got a few hours during the day in downtown Cabo-too much going on!

I posted my pics already-they are from guests and Gilda's too:)

I rate the experience as an A+

Any questions feel free to ask!

Cheers!

Meahgan

Thank you for the review. It looks like everything went well without a hitch! Do you happen to ahev the price list for Mexsun? Or the website? I am happy to hear that you had a mariachi band for less than $700. an hour. I wasn't going to get one because of the cost I was quoted but now I may rethink! Your pictures turned out great too by the way.

Great review. That sucks that Dreams wasn't very accomodating - I don't get why people work in the service industry and then act like that!

I am getting married in PV, so can't use your Mariachi band - but wanted to ask a general question about them. I am thinking of having one for cocktail hour at my wedding - but FI isn't sure it's worth the money. Did people like them, or was it just background music? I just think it would be a nice way to incorporate the Mexican theme into the wedding.

Nice review Meaghan! We got champagne brought up to the room and didn't have any trouble (probably because you went through all of that the day before me) Ha hA. But I made my request for two bottles of champagne to Mariana earlier in the day. I told her the day and time and they arrived promptly. My suggestion to the other girls is to use Mariana as much as possible!

We didn't get rose petals on the bed until our wedding night either. But I didn't even think of that stuff, so I was actually surprised when I saw the room decorated on our wedding night!

Your wedding was beautiful! I watched your first dance from our balcony!

Great review Meahgan! I'm also anxious to hear how important you thought the mariachi band was- I've been really debating them for the cocktail hour and am interested to hear what your guests thought. How many people were in the mariachi group and did you request certain songs, or did they just do their thing...

Glad everything turned out as well as it did! Congratulations!

We were one set of those fireworks. There was a private party later in the evening that you also might have been able to see - their show was about 10 minutes!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
