Sam's Club in Puerto Vallarta - cake question

Recommended Posts

When anyone was in PV, has anyone been into the Sam's Club? We were there and didn't go in and now I am kicking myself in the butt for it. This is my dilema:

While in PV, we went to Pie in the Sky bakery to check on wedding cakes. They quoted us a price of $300 for a 3 tier cake to feed 30-40 people. That's $10 - $7.50 per piece of cake. Our choices of cake flavors were almond, vanilla and chocolate with buttercream frosting. For $300 I would like to have a different kind of cake flavor. Maybe a filling or something.

I just wasn't over the moon with the cake there and was wondering if good old Sam's club in PV did cakes. I looked on their website and couldn't find anything. I guess as a little girl I just had this vision of a beautiful 3 tier wedding cake with flowers and a topper. But for $300 for a cake I don't like the tast of just makes me mad.

Thanks!

Celina

Thanks guys. I think I will call the corporate office. That's a good idea! I checked the Sam's clubs here and they do wedding cakes. I always envisioned something like a lemon cake with raspberry filling, or something just yummy and beautiful. Something other than vanilla, chocolate or almond. The only suggestion our W/C at RIU Vallarta had was Pie in the Sky. I think culturally it just isn't as big of a deal there as it is here to have a beautiful wedding cake. Maybe I'm just a cake person...who knows! I am so sad about this. What do other people do? At Las Caletas, don't they make the cakes there?Tomorrow I am calling Sam's Club! Thanks guys, I'll let you know what they say.

At LC they make their own cakes. Good luck with Sam's, let us know what happens.

Have you found your cake? Here in Mexico I never seen that Sams makes wedding cakes, but Wal-Mart does also HEB, Gigante and other food markets.

Have you tried contact these "pastelerias"? I found these on a mexican wedding site for PV. Good luck!

WOW Mora! Thank you, thank you, thank you! My fiance's mom was going to call the Sam's Club for me (because she speaks some Spanish), however, with all of these numbers to choose from, I am going to set a date for my dad to come by and help me with this one. (He speaks much more fluent Spanish, and unfortunately I speak NONE!). This is awesome! I'm sure I will be able to find something. I went into the WalMart when we were ther and was so overwhelmed by the chaos in the store, that we didn't do too much looking around in the bakery. I didn't even think to check with the other supermarkets like Gigante.

Thank you SO MUCH!

I went into Sams and there were some cakes there. You might call your PV coordinator and ask them to help with that. Or call Sams main headquarters for that. wink.gif Good luck. We had a 600US cake and only a handfull of people ate it. hahahaha A waste of money should have just gotten cupcakes :) I too wanted this gorgeous cake. It didnt happen but its okay our wedding was great at Las Caletas.

Yeah - we are going to call the Sam's headquarters. I considered cupcakes, but came back to realize that once again, I would be settling for something I didn't want - and as much as I like the idea of cupcakes, IMHO I can save those for the kids' b-day parties. We'll get it figured out. Mora gave us some great contacts for other bakeries as well.

Thank you Celina to for starting this thread. My coordinator is Erika. She gave me the link for pie in the sky. I was not impressed w/the web site and I thank you all for the ideas. Please keep us posted with the outcome. My sister speaks Spanish, so I'm going to have her call as well.

BTW Celina, do you remember how close Walmart is to the Riu hotel?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
