Photographer...do I need to hire separate one?

Recommended Posts

I have so many questions...I don't even know where to begin. I'm getting married at Dreams Tulum and will get one of the wedding packages that includes a photographer and videographer. I want my pics to be awesome, do I need to hire an outside photographer...or will the one included be good enough. It also seems like I don't get very many pics included in the package. Do most people order more?

like Lisa said some people are happy with just using the resort photog but many people bring in their own photog, if you do that most resorts will make you list them as a guest. I think it all depends on your budget

it does depend on your preferences. but i do think that typically, though i am sure there are exceptions, the resort photographers aren't "awesome" and since you said you want "awesome" pics, you may want to hire your own photographer.

you could check out some of the work the resort photog has done, and i am sure there are people on this forum that have used them too that can help.

I am also going to get married at the Dreams in Tulum and we are on a budget, but photography is very important to us. My future husband is a photographer :) What we plan on doing is using the photographer at the resort and then buying the CD of pictures. My (soon to be) husband will be able to "retouch" them, like a professional would. Maybe a more cost effective approach (if cost is important) is to just hire someone afterwards to do the "retouch" work. All this means is that they will take the raw picture and add the nice effects that we all like...black and white with the color of the flowers, etc. I hope this helps. Let me know if I can answer any questions for you. You could even hire my (future husband) for this. He's a professional photographer and would charge a fraction of the cost!

The contact info for the photographer at Dreams Tulum is filepictourAThotmail.com Email him and ask for some samples. I did and he sent me a bunch. I thought they were pretty good, but for the cost of the largest package (900$ for 80 pics on CD) I'd rather just pay twice the price and get somebody really good, like Claudia Rodriguez.

I just want to add a little caution here. While this may (and I hope it does) work out for you, some thing you should consider is what your future husband will have to work with. What I mean is your FH may be the best retoucher, a photoshop genius but if he doesn't have a good quality image to begin with there is not much he will be able to do. The old adage is "garbage in = garbage out". Im not trying to scare you, but I think a lot of the ladies here will agree that there are better options when it comes to saving money for your wedding. Photography shouldn't be where you cut the corner.

well B&J2008. that really depends on what photos you are going to value in the long run and what you can budget. if you go with the resort photographer they are going to only be there for the ceremony and part of the reception and you will only receive a few photos BUT a lot less then brining in a photographer. if you brought one in usually the photographers stay with you the entire day and sometimes more then just the one day if they are there several days and you will have a lot more of your wedding trip photographed. usually you will get a disk of the images. my advice is to break down and compare the cost of each photographer and what they will offer you and what you are willing to spend for. plus also with the photogaphers you can get some that will do it for the cost of the trip and some that will charge an arm and a leg haha. so make sure you do some comparing wink.gif. best of luck to you and have a wonderful wedding. i hope i helped out

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
