Saving Your Wedding Cake?

Recommended Posts

*Sorry this is already a thread, but since the search function isnt working,I thought I'd ask anyway!*

I know that sometimes in a traditional wedding, couples save a piece or a tier of their wedding cake and freeze it for their 1st anniversary.

I'm not sure we're doing this b/c I dont think I want to deal with the hassle of bringing a cake back home. And I'm not sure how great it would taste anyway after a whole year in my freezer! sick.gif I was just wondering if any of you DW brides did this or are planning to do this.

Ya know - we actually did this! My WC sent home the top tier of our cake, and we put it in the hotel freezer. But we were leaving the next day for Hawaii.

So I told my dad, who was heading home to MN the next day - if he wanted to deal with lugging the cake back to the US, through customs, and 1 flight connection, he certainly could. But I wouldn't want to, and wouldn't blame him if he didn't either! But when we got home from Hawaii - our cake was in our freezer!

Now, I'm not 100% sure I'll eat it on our anniversary - but maybe we'll take some pictures or something!

We found our cake top (and topper) in our mini-fridge at the resort after the wedding, but were going to another hotel for a few nights. We ended up taking a bite or two before we left.

Many local bakers will offer an anniversary cake top for weddings because I don't think the cake/frosting is very edible after that long.

I think it's a great excuse to celebrate our 1st Anniversary back in Cabo. :)

The top tier made it to our hotel room, we ate some with our hands in our drunkenness, and left the rest. As Ann showed it is possible to get it home but you may not want to eat it, not sure how long cake stays cold enough to not spoil before you get it to your fridge at home :o)

I think it would be a great excuse to go back to your destination for your 1 year anniversary! Afterall the gift is paper and that's what tickets are made of!

We would probably forget the cake if we froze it! lol So we aren't going to try and save any.

I totally forgot that we have the top layer from our AHR cake at my in-laws'! My cake lady told me how to wrap it to keep it the best. She said people who have eaten it, said it was still good! That'll be more than I had at the AHR~ never got to finish the piece we were feeding each other, and thought we'd have a TON left~ we had none sad.gif!

I really wanted to do this but couldn't figure out how I'd get the cake home. My best friend took hers out of the fridge on their 1 yr anniv, took one bite & quickly threw the rest away. She said it was disgusting!!! I had to laugh at that!!! But then what can you expect from a year old cake. LOL

We brought a lot of our cake home...the top tier plus other tiers as well. I wrapped pieces enough for 2 in Press & Seal and then put them all in Zip Locs based on the flavor. That way we can have some cake whenever we want it and re-live it!

But we'll definitely be tasting our top tier for our anniversary, but it gives us a better excuse to go back to Cabo and have Deena make us another one! :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
