maternity bridesmaid dress?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone of you had a pregnant bridesmaid? Mine will be about 5 months at the time of my wedding, and we're not sure whether she should just order a big size of the bridesmaid dress I end up choosing or if she should order a special maternity bridesmaid dress (which the 2 dress lines I'm looking at don't make, so the color would be different most likely).

well all pregnant women grow differently. Like I have been in maternity clothes for almost the entire pregnancy, where as some women don't even show until about 6 months. I am 4 months and totally showing.

TOTALLY agree! I am tall and have lots of room for a baby - so I did not show until I was about 6 months. (except in the chest - that started around month 2!) My doctor even commented about it. I went for my weekly check up exactly one week before my daughter was born. The OB said that if I weren't his patient, he would guess me to be about 7 months along even though I was full term. He actually said that I was "born to breed" since my body was perfect for carrying a baby! Talk about making me feel bad! If anyone other than an OB would have said that - I would have decked them! smile41.gif

As for your friend, I would ask the bridal shop for advice. If you order a regular dress - order BIG as her body will change in lots of places. And, she shouldn't get her shoes too early either - even feet change sizes for some people!

I am only 5' 4" and petite so that's why I started showing so soon. My mom and grandmother are even smaller than me. Luckily my DH is very tall (6' 6") and so our daughter(s)-if we ever have any-won't be as small as me.

My SIL is trying to get pregnant and she is one of my BMs. She ordered a size larger than her usual size (because at the most she will be 4 months pregnant) and then ordered extra material. We asked the bridal shop owner and she assured us that she could use the extra material to "rework" the dress if need be.

like Christine said, everyone is so different! i am only 5'4" too - but barely showing right now. and even the same person, with different pregnancies can show differently. one friend wasn't in maternity clothes until 5 mos. with her first, but then was in maternity clothes at 10 weeks with her second!

anyway, any time i've heard of a pregnant bridesmaid - she's bought a larger size, and found a really good tailor. they must make maternity BM dresses, but i wouldn't bother looking. wait until the last minute to order her dress, have her look for a good seamstress, and then just hope for the best!

Nylalani, there are several styles of bm dresses that look great on pregnant or non-pregnant ladies. The dress I chose for my girls to wear is listed as one that works great on "any body type" and in the reviews I seen where a couple of girls had pregnant attendants that wore it and looked good. I know the empire waist gowns especially carry over nicely for different stages of pregnancy.

And talk about "showing early"...I remember going to bed somewhere early in month three and thinking "Gee, I wonder when I'll start showing." then BOOM, I woke up the next morning and had a belly poking out there. hahaha!

Christine - I'm 5'3" and my FI is 6'6" too! I'm hoping the kids will be somewhere in btwn if I'm lucky enough to get pregnant!

The styles I'm looking at are:

Melissa Sweet - MS102 - in Ruby, perhaps with a flower, but no contrast detailing

Wedding Gown Style MS102 Tank style dress with cross over bodice in Silk Crinkle with below the knee length skirt. Available in Atlantis, Coco, Green Tea, Jet, Linen, Ocean, Orchid, Olive, Plum, Ruby, Sangria and Shadow. | Melissa Sweet

OR

Vineyard Colletction - 1211 - in Kensington Red

My sister had to address this at her wedding and she changed all of our dresses.

It was a strapless floor-length from David's Bridal. It had a side swoosh with a brooch. The type suited everyone.

I went for all same colour, different styles to suit each bodytype.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
