We used Jennifer Hatton.. she was really great to work with. She's originally from Canada and happens to be great friends with Deena from Sweet Dreams (also highly recommended by many.. I'm sure someone will post her info.)

She used brown sugar to cover the bottom foil. Looks like sand and was very pretty.

I used Jennifer Hatton. She was the contracted vendor for Cabo Azul Resort. Here is our review:

•Cake- Jennifer Hatton of Cabo Dessert Diva

Flash Intro Page

Grade C for service

Grade A for taste/appearance

We were forced to use Jennifer Hatton of Cabo Dessert Dive by CAR. She is their contracted cake baker. I would have liked to have more flexibility since the price was $9/slice!

The Good- the cake was super yummy!

The Bad- we had a really hard time working with Jennifer Hatton. We came up with a design for the cake only to be told we couldn’t have fondant in the heat. No problem, since from her pictures, it looked like her fondant work wasn’t that great anyway. The problem was, we gave her a picture for inspiration and she replied “we can’t do that, what other designs do you have?” WTF? She’s the cake baker, how about telling us what you CAN dohuh.gif

I was so irritated with wedding planning at this point I let FI take this one. This dragged on for 3 weeks with no other suggestions from the cake baker. Our WC told us to pick a design or go without cake since they wouldn’t be able to design on for us.

We ended up with a 2 tier, round, butter cream cake lined with ribbon I provided. It was very simple (we had our minds set on a fun “Ace of Cakes” cake) but not worth the cost or the hassle.

The cakes look beautiful. I'm getting married at the Hilton and they said they have a wonderful pastry chef, but want to charge us $200 ($250 with tax) for a one tier cake (for 15). We wanted our cake to look more like a wedding cake and was wondering about different bakeries, so thanks for your input. NOW, I'm wondering if the Hilton would even let me bring in my own cake?

Cake prices in cabo are expensive. I hired Sweet Dreams for our cakes, we did individual wedding cakes for each of our quests and if I recall we paid $16.00 per cake (however one cake could easly have fed two people) But the cake was so amazing, by design and taste.

Patti - unless the Hilton has changed since I was there in May, cakes for the Hilton are made by Jennifer Hatton - Cabo Dessert Diva. Our cake was $10 pp, including tax, and was a set fee based upon amount of people and type of cake (and was the least expensive pp option). We did not have fondant and combined design elements from two other cake pictures we saw on her website, so was pretty straightforward. We loved our cake - looked and tasted beautiful.

Not sure why your base cake is so expensive- maybe they have a miniumum? But I would ask the Hilton and I would also contact Jennifer directly - she responded within a few day sto our emails and could work with you on design - don't see why she couldn't do a small two tier cake.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
