Airport/Taxi's/Customs

Recommended Posts

Hi Girls,

Well, we are heading to PV Monday for our wedding. I have some last minute questions to ask:

1. Customs: Ya'll said, make sure we bring our receipts, load things in our

luggage w/ clothes, no boxes if possible, spread out things to others

if possible, $300.00 US per person allowed for wedding products, don't

cause issue if they give us a hard time, act like you didn't realize if they

call you out on something, have some ready cash just in case? Did I

cover everythinghuh.gif?

2. Taxi's: at airport and in city........

We are staying and so are our guests at the Riu Jalisco. We are supposed

to have a free shuttle as part of our reservation. In case, things get

mixed up: Did anyone stay at the Riu and how much if you remember was

it to taxi there? How far is it? And someone said to walk across the bridge

at the airport to get a better rate? Also, the FunJet people who we are

supposed to look for are in white slacks, red or blue shirts w/ sign saying

FunJet. If you stayed at the Riu did you take this shuttle or was there

another shuttle? I'm so worried about our guests I can't wait to see them

at the hotel smiling!

3. Airport: I have been to PV before about 4 years ago. I do remember lots

of interaction of venders there yelling Taxi, Car, come here, etc. I have

traveled a lot so Im not worried about Chris and I, only our guests who

will be doing this for the first time abroad. Any suggestions for them. I

know a few of you have been the PV most recently?

Thank you so much for all the help ya'll have given us. Amazing forum! High five to the ones who put this together. Its been a life saver! smile36.gif

#1 Sounds like you covered everything

#2 Never stayed at the RIU, but drove past it to the NV marina. From Dreams PV one way to the marina in NV it cost us $25 US, so I'd guess from the airport $10-15 US tops...just a guess. And yes, taxis are cheaper outside of the airport across the bridge.

Right when you exit customs there are people with signs, look for the Funjet sign, or ask someone else with a sign where the Funjet people are. If it has been pre-arranged your name should be on their clipboard.

#3 My advice is to ignore them, don't answer or give time to anyone that isn't carrying a FunJet sign. Most people who solicit look official and have nametags, from the legit shuttle people to the timeshare people.

Tell your guests who have pre-arranged shuttles that their name should be on the clipboard of the rep who meets them. I look myself when they say they found my name, just to make sure. (been led astray before, live and learn!) There is no real danger, other than wasting time with time share people when you could be in route to your resort.

Other than that tell them to be nice and keep their cool in all situations, you catch more flies with sugar as they say :o)

Have fun!!!!!

First off, congrats on the upcoming wedding!!! It is sooooo nice down there in PV right now cool.gif

Second, if your guests are traveling abroad for the first time I wouldn't recommend that you direct them to walk across the bridge. That's my personal feelings on that. I know it can be intimidating your first time in a new place and I'd rather them pay a little more and just get on the road!

Third, yes the time share/taxi people are pretty bad there - worse than the Cancun airport. However, if you just look straight ahead and act like you know where you're going and don't say anything to them they'll leave you alone. They won't chase you down or anything assuming you show no interest. Same goes for all over PV. Either ignore them or a simple "No, gracias or No, thanks" should do the trick (although sometimes this route takes a few repetitions cheesy.gif).

When you walk outside you will see a lot of reps holding signs up. Do you have a TA? She should be able to tell you if your ground transportation is covered by Funjet or the hotel. I would assume Funjet. These guys are usually pretty easy to see in a crowd because of their colored uniforms. If you have any problems ask another person in uniform or with a sign to direct you to Funjet reps. Once you're outside it shouldn't be as big of a hassle to get to where you're going.

Hope this helps - you're going to have an AMAZING time!!!! thewave.gif

YAH! This means another LC wedding is soon. You have already left but GOOD LUCK!!

As for the timeshare people, I feel like I have to do the ignore and walk straight ahead in malls these days. I don't know about everyone else, but there are some of those independent little stands in the walkways. Those people hassle you to death. I've learned to just not make eye contact. I guess they are just training me on how to deal with the time share struggle.

One time my FI left me in a jewelry store to go across the hall to a bathroom. He was gone forever and this lady was helping me look at rings for him. I was like "Um...I think he will be back soon." Finally, the lady gave up and went and helped other customers. Then I was standing there kinda miffed that he didn't tell me it would be a LONG visit to the bathroom. I was thinking tinkle time.

So I leave the store and there he is at one of the booths that sell the aromatherapy hot packs. He had one on his shoulders, one strapped around his back and one he was holding in his hands. He just looked absolutely ridiculous. When he saw me, he gave me the "help me" eyes. I just rolled my eyes and walked over there. The lady grabs one and tosses it on my shoulders and I'm like "Um...no, sorry we are leaving." Then we proceeded to unstrap the damn things from my FI.

He was like "She wouldn't let me leave!" Wow, is he too nice!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
