Hello - and help with South America?

Hello, My name is Michelle and I am getting married next June in South America. My fiancee and I are currently traveling for a year and we were planning to marry at the end. We figured we would have maybe 10 people travel for our wedding, so we thought we would arrive to a location, have a friend do a symbolic service and then we would have dinner at a nice restaurant. Really simple. Based on a recent inquiry of family and friends though, it turns out we could have 30-40 people travel this far. I started researching doing something more formal, but most DW websites and books (a friend recently brought me Destination Bride by Lisa Light, which had a small amount of information on Argentina and Ecuador, and The Knot Guide to Destination Weddings) have little if no information on South America.

Does anyone have any experience? We are currently considering Chile, Argentina, Peru and Ecuador and we plan to narrow that down in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Michelle

Welcome to the forum! I'm no help on S. America, but I think for a lot of us, destination wedding ideas transcend their locals.

That being said, if you had a real adventurous bunch you could have a group hike Machu Picchu and get married on the trail. Probably not what you had in mind, but you mentioned Peru and that's what I think about when I think Peru :) In any case, happy planning and let us know how we can help!

Hi Michelle. Welcome to the forum. I love South America but I have only been to Peru and Ecuador. I am going to Argentina for my honeymoon. My fiancee is actually from Ecuador but he has lived and/or traveled to every country in South America. Machu Picchu was amazing and Peru in general is a lovely country. However, I am partial to Ecuador. :) It is such a beautiful country. We were going to get married in Quito but I was worried about the altitude since my mother is overweight and has some minor health issues. Something to consider if you have someone in the same situation. There is a fantastic hotel in downtown Quito called the Plaza Grande that overlooks the San Francisco Plaza. It is has a nice ballroom that is connected to an outside terrace with gorgeous panoramic views. It could be the perfect size for your group. Good luck and if you have any questions, let me know. I can always ask the fiancee for help too.

Happy planning.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
