Las Caletas Brides ~ Post HERE! (THREAD CLOSED)

Recommended Posts

Here's another question...

My bonus mom (step... but so much lovelier than stepmother implies) is concerned about people bringing their small kids to the wedding. I don't really want to tell people NOT to bring kids, but she is worried that with the water, the fire, and the jungle... well, kids will have to be watched constantly and it won't be an easy situation for parents.

Those of you who've already gotten married at LC - did you have kids at your weddings? Were there any problems?

I'm leaning toward sending the invitations including the kids, and then sending emails to my friends with kids separately... something like, "I'd love for you to bring your kids if you want to, but I just want to make sure that you're aware of what the situation will be," and then explain about the water, fire, jungle, and can't leave early because of the boat, etc.etc.etc.

What do you think we should do?

:) Sarah

We had 2 kids, like ages 3 and 5 I'm pretty sure..lol They were fine. I even made them their own OOT bag with beach toys they could use to dig in the sand but they didn't use them - they were too busy dancing around on the dancefloor! When they weren't their parents had them at their side at all times. I know their parents would have had more fun without them (not having to babysit) but they still had a good time and were able to enjoy the night.

I think it depends on the behavior of the kids and control of the parents. If nobody is watching them they could potentially sneak off but the staff is everywhere so they wouldn't be lost for long. That sounds terrible...lol...but if there are kids you know may be terrors or the type to find mischief I would personally talk to their parents and put it like you did above. Because once they are there, there is no turning back until everyone leaves.

I love the idea of having a little kit of toys for the kiddos... shovels and pails and stuff. Smart!!! I'll chat with bonus mom and let her know that idea...

Anyone ever asked Nicole if it's possible to get a babysitter on site?

(If not I can ask...)

Ok gals, I'm curious.

married LC gals. Tell me your ONE favorite thing about having your wedding at LC.

and for the other BDB. What is the top ONE reason you picked LC?

For me, our top reason for picking LC was the guarantee that we wouldn't have men in speedos in our pictures unless we invited them rolleyes.gif aka. guaratneed private beach

Does anyone know how much daylight I will have in March? I'm worried all my wedding pictures will be semi dark. I know the water at Las Caletas is beautiful and I want that to come through in the pictures.

Also, any tricks on how to make 18 months fly by? lol. I can't wait that long to get married!

We chose Las Caletas because a year and a half before we had visited LC during the day and at night on the tours and said "wouldn't it be so cool to get married here? I wonder if they do weddings??" and then we got engaged, and I stumbled across the website and found they did weddings. There was no question about it after that - I didn't want the same old "resort" wedding (no offense to any resort brides) I wanted something different. We knew that some how, some way we would get married there - whether we had to rob a bank or take out a loan or whatever - we were determined to make it work!

The guaranteed privacy was a big seller for us as well - we didn't want a bunch of gawkers from the hotel (in speedos) in our photos/there during our ceremony!

You should still have plenty of daylight to get some beautiful pictures in March. We got tons of nice photos and our wedding was in February - the photo in my signature was immediately after the ceremony and there was lots of daylight to get some nice photos. The ocean didn't look as blue as it does in daylight - but you should be ok I think!

As for making the time go by faster - no suggestions, the time dragged by before our wedding, then the day of the wedding flew by so fast - so I say enjoy being engaged, because once you are married, time really flies!!!

I'm with you on the privacy thing. A friend of mine has a few wedding photos with a topless woman with monster implants walking by in the background. ICK. eek.gif

The other thing is that out of every beach town I've been to in Mexico, Puerto Vallarta is by far the best spot for a wedding. I've lived in Mexico for more than five years, and I've been to Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, Acapulco, Manzanillo, Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo, Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel... and all over the interior as well. It's an amazing country, but the thing is that flights are super expensive from the states, except to Cancun (too touristy for my taste) or Puerto Vallarta. (Or Los Cabos, but I hear it's also very touristy.) PV is touristy enough for people to get around easily, but it still feels like "real" Mexico to me. That was important to Roberto and me.

Also, seriously... it's Nicole. Such a rock star. Love her. Can't wait to meet her! She sealed the deal... Las Caletas is the best.

Only one reason? Tara you're killing me!!! LOL First off we picked PV because it has so much character. There are places where you almost feel you are trapped in time. Very cool.

As for Las Caletas......it's hard to pick one reason but I'll try. I'm pretty much with Lindsay. Will and I were there for the Rythyms of the Night tour a few years back and fell in love with the magic and remoteness of it all. When we found out they did weddings we knew that was the place. We're the types to go against the grain (actually I bet most LC couples are) so having a wedding like everyone else didn't appeal to us. We also didn't want the cookie cutter resort wedding (and yes no offense to resort brides, the weddings are gorgeous too) but they seem so generic and more like wedding farms than people who care. LC does a bunch of weddings but they haven't lost the ability to make you feel like your wedding is the only wedding. Plus we didn't want drunk Bob and his 6 partied out friends staring at our wedding, or nosey Sally pointing and getting all in our special moment - not even from afar. We only wanted to see each other and our guests/staff. That's what we got. PRIVACY! That may well be my favorite thing about having my wedding at LC.

My girls and I spent the day there and after the afternoon tour left it was just the 6 of us and the staff who was preparing for our wedding. My cousin took a nap on the beach and someone woke her up to say the boat was leaving...she said she was staying and the person was like "How do you do that? I want to stay". LOL She said she felt like royalty...lol...and when the boat passed by people were looking like who is she and how come she gets to stay? We had total privacy!!! When I wrote my vows right before the ceremony I was up there in a hammock and all I could see below was the emerald water and the occasional staff member walking by. No noise. No PEOPLE!!! It's the best, and if you've been to LC before on a tour you ain't seen nothing until you're there and the tour isn't...one of the most peaceful days of my life. Most people can't say that about their wedding day :o)

It's awhile to wait but I'm getting married March 27, 2008 in LC. You will have a full year to see if my photos have desirable lighting. I too was concerned about this because when you view the pics on the Adventure Weddings website they have a vivid blue ocean in the background and then when you see photos posted here it's semi-dark and a grayer ocean. The photos were still beautiful though!

My plan is to break tradition and photograph before the ceremony. I'm having my photog come over early with me. She said she didn't care and I figured she could just hang out on the beach doing whatever until it's time to take pics prior to the ceremony. I didn't want to see each other before the ceremony but I really want photos with full sun. It's just something you have to weigh out.

No worries though. All the pics I have seen so far have been beautiful regardless of the lighting.

    • I have stayed at Dreams La Romana and Dreams Dominicus.  The two resorts are very different in style and decor. A few comparison points are below and fact sheets are attached for both.   Both resorts are approx 45 minutes from Punta Cana airport, close proximity to Saona Island, Catalina Island and Altos de Chavon. Top championship golf courses in the Caribbean are just minutes away including Teeth of the Dog, Dye Fore, The Links and La Estancia – all designed by world-famous Pete Dye. Restaurants are similar at both resorts.  Both offer the Explorers Club for Kids.  Dreams Dominicus  Brand new resort and in 2016 488 rooms (however additional construction was underway) More contemporary style & decor Good beach area Rooms were very nice Preferred Club located in main lobby and adjacent to main pool & beach front Food was good Center plaza area with nighttime entertainment Main lobby is small, but outdoor bar off lobby is nice Dreams La Romana Originally built in 2003 & opened as Dreams La Romana in 2008 756 rooms Recently renovated and new preferred club adults only lounge & pool added  Rooms are more traditional Caribbean decor Grounds are very lush and tropical Good beach area food was good    Dreams Dominicus fact sheet.pdf Dreams La Romana fact sheet.pdf
