Ugh...I'm really sorry to hear you didn't like Villa del Palmar -- a large group of my wedding guests (including myself) are staying at Villa Del Palmar. Tammy, the wedding TA from this site, had recommended it as a more budget friendly option. So i guess we'll see. I'm not going to worry too much. Alejandra from the hotel was very responsive with me compared to other hotels...and said that we can do Donkey Derby (huh.gif - hehe - I had to look it up) with our guests on Saturday. I'm picturing Brian racing his friends on donkeys...don't know. We'll see!

We asked our friends whether they would want to be at an AI since we're doing the LC thing with dinner away from the hotel. They all agreed that they didn't want to do the AI thing - so we're doing a BIG welcome dinner at Daiquiri Dicks on Saturday night and then LC on Sunday. More expensive for us but cheaper for them in the end. So I'm not too worried about the hotel. As long as people can sleep well and aren't horrified by the hotel...I'm hoping they'll walk away thinking: the wedding was amazing - what a great trip - lots of fun.

So we'll see!!!! :-)- Heather

Hi Heather - I certainly don't want to deter anyone away from Villa Del PalMar. It's clean, they have a nice pool and some nice restaurants. The restaurant by the pool has great margaritas. I think the main reason why I was so disappointed is that we chose the AI option and it's definitely not a hotel that provides the best AI package. We also were placed in a room facing the highway and it had two double beds. We tried to upgrade but they wouldn't let us. Since you guys didn't pick the AI option I think you'll enjoy it more. Plus, how much time are you going to really be spending at the hotel anyway? It will give you more opportunites to explore the city. :)

Oooh Andi I'm jealous!!! Have a pina colada for me, k?? wink.gif

We've been on 2 site visits, and both times we stayed at the Westin in the Marina area. Loved it there, would recommend it. We tried to book there for our wedding, but they had already filled up for group reservations 1 year in advance! That's convention hotels for ya! Arghhh. Anyways, we ended up booking our whole group over at the Marriott instead. Christina also stayed there. We're going there site unseen, but I hear the hotel has just been totally renovated (renovations were supposed to be completed by the end of this year). So you might wanna check those two out - the Marina is a great little area: tons of little shops and restaurants all within walking district, Walmart is really close, AND you're VERY near the port where they pick up for LC! Also, it's not far from downtown where all the action is! :)

Have funnnnnn!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Oh no worries Brittany!! We knew it wasn't going to be at the same level of most of the AIs going into it. I can totally see why you would be disappointed with the service you got! I can't believe they didn't let you switch to a better room!!!! I've read tons of reviews on tripadvisor...and i've heard about the room problems. So I just told my close friends in the wedding about the possibility --and to please not stress me out by telling me about it right before the wedding if it happens. They can tell me all the crummy stuff afterwards! But I hadn't thought about it happening to me... I would be ticked off!!!! did you work with Alejandra? She's been very responsive -- so I think I would try to get in touch with her directly!

Thanks for letting me know about the margaritas! A good margarita can make any problem seem a little bit less of one - eh? :-)

I don't suppose you did any donkey derby while you were there? hehe

Thanks for the info though!

Destination wedding or not, not everything is going to go exactly the way you plan it so I think you need to keep an open mind and learn to go with the flow. From what I've heard though, Kelley and Nicole make sure that everything does go pretty much exactly as you plan it, so it gives me a piece of mind knowing that the wedding details will be taken care of (which is the most important thing anyway!!). The hotel is just another piece and if you have a great attitude going in you'll be just fine! And yes, nothing a margarita can't cure!! We never did the donkey derby, but I'm definitely curious to find out what that is!! :)

Definitely going with the flow is the only way it can work! Brian and I have been to PV several times but have never been to LC before...and finally decided that we're at least going to do a site visit two days before the wedding (mostly so that Brian can see it in the day light without rushing from the boat to get to our ceremony)...but would probably be just fine showing up!

Just a random question for everyone: has anyone tried putting gerbera daisies or flowers on their plates for guests? We're thinking about using a pink runner with no main center piece...but with candles and rose petals but with different colored gerbera daisies on each person's plate...has anyone done anything like that? I've checked on the site...but if anyone has any pics of LC with something similar, I'd love to see it!!

:-) Heather

I keep worrying that it will be too cool for people to swim during our early November wedding.

It won't be too cold for people to swim at all! We were totally surprised by how warm it was in November. I told people they should pack pashminas and sweaters for the nighttime.... and I felt like a total idiot! It's so warm in November you don't need a sweater or pashmina at all!

We spent all of our days swimming in the pool or ocean. Even swam at LC before the wedding :)

Hi - I'm getting married on Las Caletas on 1/17/09. I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on the wedding cake. Nicole says she can do anything - which is a little overwhelming. What do people suggest? Did you go with a filling? Did anyone do chocolate cake? Does it taste like traditional wedding cake?

Thanks!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
