We were going to stay at Barcelo Mismoloya but are now concerned that it might be too far to town (for those that want to venture in) and then the ride to the marina would be quite long from what I hear. Just wanted to get some advise from some other brides. I want to get everything booked now! We are learning heavily towards an all-inclusive but I think we are still open to any suggestions. We think we will have about 40 people and the hotel has to allow children. Thanks so much for your help!!
Hi there!

Roberto and I are Marriott people - we love to rack up those points! We stayed at the Marriott in the Marina area, as did a lot of our guests. On our wedding website in the accommodations section, we put four hotels that are all right in a row (relatively easy beach walking distance, in this order) - Velas Vallarta, Marriott, Melia, and Westin. No one stayed at Velas Vallarta (although I have stayed there once a few years ago and it's GORGEOUS), one couple stayed at the Westin, and then most of our guests were either at Melia or Marriott. Velas and Melia are all-inclusive, while Marriott and Westin are not. A few people made other arrangements outside of the marina area. We didn't do a room block or anything - people just made their arrangements and everything worked out great. From the marina area hotels to downtown is a short cab ride (around $8-10 US) or you can even take the bus for about a dollar if you walk a bit out to the main road. Getting cabs from the hotels to the marina was easy for people to do. We didn't really have any problems with the hotel except for some drama with our welcome party, which turned out great - I just waited a LONG time for the contract! Our wedding was in February, but then we just went back two weeks ago for a 4-day weekend (FREE with all the Marriott points we had racked up over the last year and a half), and it was great!!! Good luck to you and congratulations on your choice to get married at LC - you will be glad you did.

Thanks ladies! I am very excited about LC and am so excited to be getting married there. I think I am now leaning towards Dreams. I really just have to make a decision and go with it. I have never done the all-inclusive thing but my fiancee thinks that it is definately the way for us to go. My worry with it would be that people that opt not to stay at the hotel really can't just swing by and visit as I understand it.

I worried about that too, but once a few people booked there, everyone else started to book there too. We actually had 10 people staying at a different resort but once they heard everyone else was staying at Dreams they changed their reservations to dreams too.

PS I'm in AZ too!

I know that this was an option. Honestly, I wouldn't do it because the time flies by so fast, I don't know if I would have enjoyed it as much. Once we had our ceremony and dinner, we had maybe an hour or two to dance. We really wanted more time to do the party reception thing. I don't know if everyone else's "partying" time was that short or we were just super slow at eating, and I do know that we started the ceremony about 45 mins late b/c of sailboat docking problems, FIL getting lost, and everyone having to freshen up after their baths in salt water on the way out of the marina.

Another option would be to have the fire dancers come to the reception. Several people on here did that and loved it. I think that it is similar to what you would see at Rhythms of the Night just on a very small scale.

I think that if you really want to do it go ahead. I would suggest setting up a group tour for another night. You might be able to use this as your rehearsal dinner instead of going somewhere. If I'm not mistaking they do serve food during the tour, but I've never been.

We stayed at the Melia Puerto Vallarta. It was AI and they have lots of programs for kids. Don't be alarmed by the website. It makes the resort look like it is all Flinstones and not very high class, but TRUST ME its not at all. Very, Very nice place. It is fairly affordable too. Roundtrip airfare from Phoenix, room, and AI cost an average of $750/pp for 6 days/7 nights, granted that was last year. It is a $6 taxi ride from the hotel to the marina.

My advice...book Las Caletas! :)

You are so far out from your wedding you will have PLENTY of time to get it all planned! I booked Las Caletas this past March for our April 09 date and I have (so far) been a stress free bride! My FI keeps telling me he is waiting for me to turn into a bridezilla...but it won't happen. This whole wedding thing at Las Caletas has been perfect!

I am less than 3 months away, and still pretty stress free. They handle everything for you. The few things I have to do are figure out extra centerpieces and my invites, but that is all. You can be more involved if you want and do all sorts of cute things, but you dont have to.

Actually, I am a little stressed but its more about the welcome baskets and the hotel block, etc. But I agree, the wedding stuff thru LC is so easy.

I'm totally late- but ya, that's insane. I didn't really see Los Burros as a nice sit down dinner place, but rather a festive, casual place. For $50 pp you better be getting some awfully good grub and environment.

I know you said you are waiting til you get there, but check out Fajita Republic Yari. They have a nice atmosphere and some really good fajitas. Actually Steve and I REALLY wished we would have had our WD there. It was like $15 for steak, shrimp and chicken fajitas. We paid WAY more than that for our WD and the people didn't really like the food. LOL Oh well....

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
