Las Caletas Brides ~ Post HERE! (THREAD CLOSED)

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone!!! My name is Lindsay and I'm a Caletas bride as well!!! As you can see from my user name, we are getting married on Feb 14th!!!!!!! WE are SOOOOOOOOO excited and I am so thrilled that my amazing FH found this forum!!! You can probably expect to see me posting here quite a bit!!!! We have 33 people coming with us and the only people that know we are having a wedding at Caletas are my parents, his parents and Ed and I - it's a HUGE secret that we've been trying to keep for almost a year - and it's almost time to reveal!!!

We are staying in a small town 1 hr north of Puerto Vallarta - Rincon de Guayabitos.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting to know you all and reading all of your posts and sharing info with all the other Caletas brides!!!!!

Talk to you soon!

Lindsay

Welcome Lindsay - glad your FH found this site as well! I would love to hear about how you're pulling this surprise off - how cool is that!! Did you just plan a group vacation, and then people are just going to be there for your wedding? What a great idea!

What have you done in terms of decorations for the wedding? That's one thing I am struggling with - what to do, since I don't think I need much, but I don't want things (like the tables) to be bare. Do you have any pictures?

Your wedding date is coming up so soon! We have 3 Jan. Las Caletas brides, on the 17th, 19th, and 27th so there will be lots of information coming in right before your wedding.

Hi again everyone!

Well, everyone that is going on our trip knows that we are getting married, but they all think it is just going to be on the beach at the hotel we are staying at....No one knows any of the wedding details at all!!!

We are planning on pulling this off by having the groomsmen delivery a "message in a bottle" note with some valentine candies to each room the morning of the wedding. It will say something like "Meet in the lobby at 2:00...be prepared for the day, bring a sweater etc etc...." We have to figure out the exact wording.

Then, once everyone is on the bus, we are going to hand out little books I am making up titled "Where are we going?" And then that is when everyone will find out they are going to be whisked away to the beautiful Las Caletas!

WE have spent months coming up with our plan, and dodging questions about the wedding from EVERYONE - including the wedding party. No one knows about it, and we can't wait to surprise everyone!!!!

As far as decorating details etc., we are using rose petals on the tables, and then using the bridesmaid's bouquets randomly in vases along the table - plus we are bringing favours with us - so those will be on the tables too - we're just keeping the decorations simple - after all, the surroundings are decoration enough! I've seen some pictures, that FH found on the 'net of a Caletas wedding, and the tables looked very simple and elegant - they just had rose petals and candles along the centre of the tables, it was beautiful!

Anyway, sorry for the long post, I can tend to babble!

Talk to you all soon!

Lindsay

Babble away ... I want to hear all of your details! What are you doing as favors? I don't plan on doing a lot of extra decorations either - it really is beautiful there, you have both the beach and the jungle!

What a great surprise - I'd love to see the faces of your guests when they find out where they're headed!

What does your dress look like? Are you heading over to Las Caletas early? I think I will, just so I have time to get the hair done (blah), but then you miss out on the boat ride with everyone! I'd love to hear how other brides have handled this. Are you having someone do your hair/makeup at Las Caletas - if so, who are you using? I really need to think about what I want to do there ...

Our favours are shotglasses that my mom and I painted with palm trees etc, filled with yellow and blue (our colors) jelly belly's. We are also giving our guests personalized chocolate bars, that have our name and the date on them - ordered from Chocowrap.com....

I don't think I'll be heading to Caletas early - I'll likely have to go with everyone else, as we are being picked up at our hotel (since we have to get into Nuevo Vallarta first!) That's the trouble with where we are staying - it is SOOO far away.

I'm having my hair done by my aunt, who is a retired hair dresser, so she'll do it at the hotel the morning of, and I'll do my makeup before we leave the hotel as well, and just do any touch ups before the ceremony once we arrive at Caletas. I won't have my veil in my hair until Caletas either. I have short hair so it'll be easy to style - I'm just worried about the wind on the boat, I might have to wear a scarf or something to keep my hair in place!!!! I will have lots and lots of hair spray in it I'm sure!

What extras are you all having? We are having the fire dancers, and would love to have the DJ, but it just wasn't in our budget. We are bringing our Ipod with songs for our "dance". Also, we only got the 25 photo package with the 100 negatives on CD - I hope that will be enough, I may be kicking myself if we miss out on some good photo ops....hopefully the digital cameras of our guests will be able to take decent photos as well. Does anyone know if you can order extra prints from the photographer? I guess I can ask Nicole that...

Has anyone talked to the minister about the Ceremonies? That is the next thing we have to do, and I'm getting a little anxious to get it all done!

You ladies are definitely way ahead of me. But here's what I am THINKING of doing ...

I have long hair, with a mind of it's own, so I think I will need more time to have it done - and I know it would get ruined on the boat if I went over with everyone. Though I still may change my mind on this, since that boat trip sounds like fun! What are you doing, Marisa?

I plan on getting a mariachi (sp?) band for the cocktail hour - not sure what do to about music for the actual ceremony - could I use the mariachi band for this as well? And I go back and forth about reception music - my FI is definitely the music one out of the 2 of us, so it's really his call. I sure don't want to deal w/it (getting an iPod all loaded and stuff), so it's up to him. I also like the idea of a DJ being interactive - so we'll see there.

I don't plan on doing favors at the table - I think I'll just give OOT (Out of Town) bags to the guests in their rooms and fill it with goodies.

I am flying in a photographer from the US, so I didn't go with any of their packages - this is something that was very important to me, so I was ok with spending some money on the photography. So I don't know if you can get extra prints or not, Nicole should be able to tell you. I spoke with someone who got married at Las Caletas a while ago though, and they used one of their packages, and were quite happy.

Marisa, your ceremony is beautiful! I can't wait to hear from the minister!

For ceremony music, Nicole said we could bring the songs we want on a cd and they will play it for us. You could probably use the Mariachi band for the ceremony as well though!

Good to hear that people have been happy with the photography - this is very important to me as well, though FH just doesn't want to spend the extra $ on the bigger package - which is understandable I guess!! I'm sure we'll have plenty of good photos!

You are getting so close to your wedding Marisa - you must be so excited! I'm over the moon with excitement and I'm still a month away!!!!

I'm definitely going over early with my maid of honor and another friend. We are either taking the boat at 9 am or if one is available, we will take the 11:30 am one. That way, we can get to las caletas, take a swim, get a massage, shower and then get our hair and make up done. Actually, I am doing my own make up.

As for favors, I really went back and forth on that for a while, I wasnt sure if I should give people something out in las caletas or not. So, I ended up making cds for the favors and I will add them to the OOT bags.

About the photographer, I am using the one that Nicole usually hires and we ended up getting the second largest package. I know that one comes with all the pics on a CD so anytime down the road, you can get your own prints made. I'm not sure if the smaller packages have that or not but I bet you can add it for a nominal cost.

Ann, the placemats didnt arrive yet!! I'm not even going to stress about it, if it turns out that I dont have placemats, I'm sure the wedding will still be wonderful! I just want to leave already and get there!!! We are leaving in 5 DAYS!!! Craziness!! I started packing last night. Well, really just trying stuff on and laying stuff out in the guest room. I have to decide what suitcases to use.

I didn't even know we had the option to head over to Caletas early!!! - I'm going to have to check with Nicole on that one to see if that would be an option for me!! It would be great if I could do that and then have my aunt do my hair when we arrive!

So many things to think about isn't there!?

I am doing my own makeup as well!

Marisa - 5 days until you leave, how exciting!!!!

Marisa - don't worry about the placemats; I just have no idea how many guests I will have at this point anyway - it could now easily be over 50. You must be getting so excited - I am excited for you! We'll really have a steady stream of Las Caletas brides now through June ... and I can't wait! And since I am towards the end, I get to steal everyone's ideas!

Unfortunately, I don't know the first thing about make-up (nor do I want to!), so I do need help there. I am hoping I can get a friend to do it for me - I'll just have her practice some time the week before.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
