In memory of Dad Poem

Recommended Posts

I am reading this at work and totally wiping away the tears... it's really beautiful and I would love to borrow it for my own wedding in some way. I also wanted to put a little picture of him, like in a locket or something, on my bouquet.

My dad passed away 3 years ago from cancer... it's so hard for me to imagine my wedding without him, but I know that he will be there. On his last day in the hospital he was unresponsive and we were all saying our goodbyes and I love you's but weren't really sure what he could here if anything. Well, when I had my time alone with him I told him how much I regretted that he would not be able to walk me down the isle when I get married, how much I was sad that his grandkids would never meet him. I asked him if he would please be there at my wedding, whenever that would be, watching over me, and at that moment he squeezed my hand so hard, I knew he heard me and was saying yes... I said in surprise even "you know what I'm saying daddy, you can hear me!" and he squeezed my hand again.

Ok, now I am on the verge of bawling again.

Anyways, I think that poem is perfect for the occasion... maybe I will print it out really small and hang it with the picture of him on my boquet, or maybe I will put it on a chair saved for him.

Princess402, that story is amazing. And he will be with you.

I can really relate to you. I lost my dad less than a month ago, and still wonder how Ill get through my wedding day. It breaks my heart that my future kids wont have him in their lives, but they will defintely know because I will be talking about him all the time!

I was thinking of the frame locket on the bouquet to...hes really there walking us down the isle that way :)

That poem is beautiful and really touched me. I too lost my father 2 years ago and I am wondering how to honor him at the ceremony. I really love the locket idea because it would be like he was walking with me. I don't even know who is giving me away yet. Maybe my brothers or uncle or possibly even my mom. My FI also lost his father so I would like to do something to honor them both somehow. Any ideas??

I think I have to stop reading these tear jerking posts at work...everyone is going to think that I'm a nut...sitting at my desk crying!! (not to mention it shows them that I'm not actually working all day!!) This is absolutely perfect! I lost my dad 18mths ago to cancer and am looking for someway to honor him during my ceremony. I found a beautiful memory frame at David's Bridal, (see one of the last posts...http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t29284) now I just have to incorporate this poem. Thank you so much for sharing!

Thank you soo much for bumping this...my mum passed away suddenly in July - I never really got to go through all my wedding plans with her, but she was ooh soo looking forward to going to Mexico, she had never been abroad...anyhoo, i'm going to change the words slightly and add this to the welcome brochure i'm going to make - means it is subtle, but still heard.

Thanks again

My mom died from cancer when I was 19. I'm also doing the memory frame and think this would be a great poem to incorporate somehow. Although this wasn't my intention when picking Cancun, it just happens that Cancun was the last place my mom and dad went on vacation before she got sick. My dad is so excited to go back and keeps telling me about things from their trip together (since that was the last time he was there).

Thanking you dancingdolphin for bumping this. I lost my youngest sister less than a month ago and I would like to have a memorial for her at the wedding. I changed the words slightly and may put it in the program. I will continue to look at other past BDW bride ideas.

I found a way to use it without being too sad on my wedding day. I decided against incorporating it into the ceremony...or having anything to do with the wedding day at all. But I decided to use it as the last page of my welcome book.

It's not the greatest picture of him...but he wasn't exactly a big fan of getting his picture taken!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
