Choosing a DW dress…

Recommended Posts

Ladies I am having the hardest time. I canâ€t decided on style or what is appropriate for the beach. Should I go formal? Not so formal….arrrgh! lol

So how did you choose?? Was it hard? Am I just making nothing into something??

My sister says I need to just go try on all the ones I like and pick one! (that is like a lot of dresses lol lol)

When I first started looking I was looking at all dresses I would wear if I were getting married here, and then I realized they wouldn't really look right on the beach. So I've only been looking at dresses with little to no train, not too pouffy, I just try to picture the dress in wedding pics, but I still think that you do have a lot of options. I know what you mean about having a lot of dresses you like, I have a ton, but there are a lot of similiarities between them all too. I think once you start trying on some different styles you'll figure out what you like and then you can decide if you think it will fit right with the type of wedding you're having.

I agree with your sister. And I may not be the "right" one to answer thsi question - mainly because I haven't chosen my dress yet! I also got caught up on what was the "right" dress for a beach wedding. Honestly, what I've found to be true, is that you should wear whatever dress you love. Whether that's formal or not - you have to be comfortable.

If you go to the thread(s) where people post a picture of their dress, you will see the styles vary a lot. It really is just a matter of personal opinion - and I don't think the location should dictate the dress you love! If you want the big, ballgown, princess dress - go for it!!!

I think it depends on how formal is your wedding going to be, and what kind of dresses do you like, I chose a mermaid style dress, it's kind of formal but I love it.. let me see if I can upload the pic..

no I couldn't.. hehe, don't know why it says invalid file and I've already reduced it's size..

well anyway.. let us know what you like and what you decide

When I was looking for a dress, my only concern was that it was not too heavy that I would sweat my butt off for our beach wedding. I just kept that in mind with all the dresses that I tried on. Other then that I didn't care what people thought and if it was "too formal" for a beach wedding.

My advice is to find a dress you love & feel wonderful in. It may be an easy breezy sheath or it could be a more formal dress...but you will know when you find it. The other question to ask is how formal do you plan your wedding to be? Sometimes that can help.

Me, personally, I did ALOT of online browsing to narrow down what styles I was drawn to. I came up with some things that I did not expect myself to like. The first dress I tried on was "the one." Apparently that is unusual! Anyway, my dress is more formal than I thought I would like, but it just makes me feel great. The other more destination-y dresses just didn't look right on me.

So, go try on some dresses girl!

These ladies have great advice.... I do want to add my 2 cents!

I too felt like I needed to go simple and beachy feeling. I started putting on these dresses and they just didn't feel right. I ended up going with a gown that is semi-fancy (if that makes sense!), but I'm not doing a veil.

Remember to find something that will travel well. Most resorts/hotels will steam it, but it was very important that it was not too heavy to carry throughout the airports and didn't wrinkle too much!

The best thing that I ever did was try on everything that looked like it might work! I immediately knew which dress was the one once I put it on! The rest of the formality or in-formality of the other details revolved around the dress I chose.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
