Funny - Paul and I finally had the chance to sit down and look at all of the photographer options we had. Then we ranked them (all that were available on our date), without looking at price. We had 2 that were at the top - one we haven't heard back from, and Elizabeth! So - I am going to book her today! I am so excited to have finally made this decision!

Bella - I haven't found anyone that has used her in the past. There is a Knottie I believe getting married early 2007 that is using her though, and said she's been great.

I would love to see her recent work. Please post the link to the pictures if you find them anywhere and I will do the same. I booked her for my May 26th, 2007 wedding in RM. Her works seems great but the portfolio on the website does not include the photos from the entire wedding only random shots. It was very difficult for me to decide on the photographer b/c my fiancé is a photographer himself with a very photojournalistic/contemporary style and I was a little nervous to find a good photographer. I sent her links to Sol Tamargo and Juan pictures trying to get her familiar with a style we like and her response made me feel like I made a right decision:

"Hi Loreta,

I sent you an email to let you know I received the deposit, sorry it didn't´t make it to you! I am looking forward to working with you both...what fun that your fiancée is a photographer as well...I just peeked quickly at his website, it looks great! I ma glad to know you like the more nontraditional photos... your wedding will be a great chance to make some amazing images! It is so nice when the couple "gets it". I will check out the links...both Juan Carlos and Sol are friends of mine, so I am very familiar with their work. :-) It will really nice to get to know you ahead of time through your wedding site as well.

thanks Loreta!

Elizabeth"

I am so happy to hear other people that like her - some people on The Knot weren't nearly as agreeable. I do want to hear honest opinions, and will go what what I feel is right - but they were a little negative a feel. Sorry to any Knotties reading this - nothing personal! I guess when you really like something, you just want to hear opinions that agree with yours!

I also loved Sol Tamargo (not available for my date) and Juan Carlos Tapia. Juan wasn't available for me either, but he recomended Elizabeth to me! So I feel pretty good about my decision.

Elizabeth did send me a couple links to other weddings - here they are from an email ...

First, a "honeymoon session" on the beach with a local couple (they were married in a church and had a hotel reception, we did this the week after): www.elizabethmedina.com/aurora_jc_playa

Here is a link to a gallery from a fun destination wedding: tia_shawn

And to a couple of the albums I have designed with my photographs:

If they don't work for you, let me know - I had a little trouble with them and ended up just entering the URL manually.

If you get any more info. from her, I'd love to hear it too! Our weddings are close enough together that we may not be able to share too much about the actual wedding day. But that was a good idea telling her you liked Sol and Juan's style too. How did you hear of her?

Also, if you're interested I thought I'd post a small list of Q&A in case you had any of the same questions - I don't even know what to ask a photographer! Since you're fiance is a photographer, he'd probably know better!

1) Have you ever been to/shot a wedding at Las Caletas? I am guessing not, since you're not from the area and it's a small place. No, I have not shot a wedding in Puerto Vallarta as of yet, but I am looking forward to it!

2) Is it possible to split up the 8 hours of coverage, possibly getting an hour or so either the day before or day after? I don't know yet if this is something we'll want to do, but I thought I'd ask to see if the option was there. Splitting up coverage: that is probably not a problem, especially if I am able to stay in a hotel close to the location where the photo session would be.

3) How many photographers/assistants will be there? I do all the photography and my assistant would most likely be either one of my daughters (aged 18 and 20), or my husband. The mostly help me with my equipment, although one of my daughters is starting to do some photography as well.

4) Typically how many pictures are you taking in the ~8 hours of coverage?

In eight hours I usually take upwards of 1000 pictures and present you with around 500 that I feel best tell the story of your day.

5) (I think I asked her about her experience doing beach weddings - I can't find the actual question) Up until now I have not done a lot of beach weddings, That is because I had until recently been working primarily in my local area (Merida, Yucatan, which is about 4.5 hours from the Riviera Maya), and sadly my local brides do not favor beach weddings. Our beach is on the Gulf of Mexico side of the Yucatan Penninsula, and while we love it it is not the amazing beach of the Maya Riviera/ Cancun/ Cozumel. The weather can be much more windy as well. (I do have two local beach weddings the books for 2007 though, so maybe the trend is starting.) I do cover destination weddings locally in the wonderful restored haciendas here in Yucatan and I really enjoy them because they are so relaxed, intimate and fun compared to my local weddings (I have had several weddings with upwards of 700 guests in recent months!). I decided this year to cover weddings outside my local area and do have several beach destination weddings coming up, hopefully yours will be among them.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
