Return the China or Buy More?

Recommended Posts

We registered for China because my mom said to....haha We received two sets. To make it useful I would think I need at least 4 sets, preferably 6-8.

So would you keep the 2 for you and DH?

Or buy more settings (@$140 each)?

Wait the traditional year to see if you get more?

Or exchange them for something else you want?

They are beautiful but I wouldn't use them regularly:

I really think you will regret it in the future if you dont continue with your china. I know you don't think you will ever use it, but some day you will love having it...even if it is just for those special times. I have been over this sooo many times with dear Maggie. She feels her white Pottery Barn dishes are all she needs. I will talk to her again when she is planning her first formal dinner party! So my friend, I say keep them and build on them.

I know you're a mom because you sound like mine...LOL And moms generally know best so maybe you guys are on to something! To DH a plate is a plate and we got 12 settings of dishes/bowls/etc. for everyday use so he's like, why do we need more? And I'm scared I'll break it all just because it is nice, haha. But you make a good point....

My opinion is that if you love the setting....keep going. If you don't love the setting but don't want to offend use the setting pieces for appetizers, bowl, and other side dishes. I think that it is the thought that counts but if the thought just doesn't jive with yours... distraction is the best bet.

no expert advice because i'm anti-china registration (haha, i'm such a rebel!), but i think the set is really pretty!! if there is something else that you guys could really use a lot more, i would probably exchange them, but if you can swing the extra sets (or know this set won't be discontinued before your year is up) i would go for it.

I am not registering for china. I know people feel really differently about it, so just do what works for you. I have no interest in having china & my friend is registered for 4 different settings. I'm more they type to have thanksgiving on paper plates so there are few dishes to do. She was planning her first thanksgiving with china a year in advance.

If you like it, then buy 2 more settings some day. If you really don't care about it, return it. I don't believe in spending money on something you don't really care about.

For some strange reason I've always wanted really nice china to pull out for Christmas dinner or those special occisions. IMO I would keep the set and build on it through the years. The set is very pretty. But with all that said, if you feel you are not the type of person who would ever use it, then I say trade it in for something different.

we only registered for china last minute b/c fmil kept asking why we didn't and gave us grief...but we didn't get any of it. the china we did register for looked like everyday dishes (nambe butterfly is the brand and style, i believe) so if we got it would could use it. i'm also the paper plate type, and i have no desire to find a place for something that i'll never use...that being said, we registered for nice silverware, which i thought would be used everyday, but fi only wants to use it on special occasions...

so if you had 4 sets, that means that you'd only have 1 other couple over....would you really use good china for one other couple? i can't think of one other couple that would really care.....

I think you should continue and add more to it. I never use China and I wasn't going to register, but my FI's family is kinda fancy and they like to do fancy dinners. My mom never had china and she always regretted it. Although, you do only have 2 place settings, which means it isn't like you are returning a whole crapload of china. If you won't use it and don't want to add to it, return it, cuz it won't be that hard to catch back up, if you ever decide that you do want china.

On a side note, I don't know anything about it, but my aunt says that department stores do payment plans on china where you have 0% financing for a certain amount of time and you can purchase your whole set. Might be something to check out...

I got china and my Nana actually found a 8 people set online for really cheap, have you thought of looking online to find something that would go with it or even the same set?

Honestly I think having china is so great, not only did I make DH go out and get a display cabinet right after the wedding I used it for Thanksgiving this year and plan to use it even for a nice dinner with friends, or what about when you want to make your DH a nice dinner why not use the China. I think people should use it more often.

I totally think you should keep it and try to add to your collection.

We purposely registered for a simple setting, its white with a simple platnium band around it. So that we can add to it with other pieces throughout our marriage.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
