Catholic Ceremony

Another thing I have been wondering about....has anyone who has gotten or will be getting married on the beach had a Catholic deacon perform the ceremony. I know priest won't perform full catholic ceremonies on the beach. Neither my FI or I are really religious, but we are starting to feel the pressure of how much this means to our parents (both are Catholic). Not sure if there is anyone local to use or if people just bring their own deacon from their parish

 

Any help or ideas on how to handle this would be really appreciated!

I was in the exact same boat and I tried, but my WC told me that most Catholic priests down there will not perform a ceremony unless you have already done one at home. So, we just had a minister for our Cabo wedding and then will get married at my parents' church over the holidays. Since we didn't do a legal wedding in Cabo, we need to do it anyway, and the priest can do the legal wedding, so it's working out just fine. It will just be us and my parents at the church.

We are doing the same thing and getting married three weeks after our Cabo wedding in the Catholic church at home. I wanted to get married in the church but when we thought about it, we didn't want a priest in Mexico marrying us but we really wanted a destination wedding. We want our own priest at home. So, my FI's dad is "marrying" us in Mexico and then we are telling people we're getting it blessed in the catholic church when we come home. Really, we won't be legally married until we do the church thing. I'm wondering Bridget, did your wedding day in Cabo feel any less "real" to you. PArt of me thinks since it won't be legal there, we are just putting on a show. In my heart, I hope it feels like the real deal and that will be our actual wedding. Hard to tell because I always pictured myself getting married in the church since I was a kid so I'm not sure how I will feel

That's a tough question for me bc we've been together 6 years, own a home together, and have a puppy. So, in many ways, we've been committing to each other all along and getting married hasn't been a big deal for me.

For us, the Cabo wedding was our "real" wedding even though it's not recognized as such by any legal or religious authority. It was important for us to stand up in front of all our family and friends, say our vows, and celebrate our relationship with all the people in our lives. All that was real and felt great! I still feel like there's something meaningful about getting married by our priest, if nothing else, to make my dad very happy and so I'm looking forward to that as well. But, that's a long winded way of saying that my wedding day was perfect and I feel blessed to have the opportunity to repeat my vows so soon after!

We consider our Cabo wedding our anniversary as do our friends, etc. We consider the Catholic wedding more like we're "making it official" and it's mostly only meaningful to my family.

I was feeling the exact same way as you...I'm having a symbolic ceremony in Cabo, but have been raised Catholic all my life. Plus I have never been to a DW before. So I didn't know if I was going to "feel" like I was getting married. But, I worked on my ceremony w/ the officiant from the resort and am actaully really happy with it. When I'm all dressed up and saying my vows infront of my FI, i think any hesitation or questions that may be lurking in my head will quickly fade away.

I am actually really excited to be able to "re-live" our wedding again in the church after our Cabo wedding. It will just be our parents and a few close friends and then we'll go out to brunch after. I get to wear my dress again, walk down the aisle, have the whole church experience. So they way I look at it, I get to have two weddings!! Isn't that every brides dream?

FYI, Padre Juvencio is EXTREMELY difficult to get a hold of. We've sent several emails and called a bunch of times and still no response... we have our hearts set on getting married there, so we're going to keep trying but... we're starting to worry!

I don't know if this helps, but, I just called and the message on the answering machine said Office hours are between 9am - 1pm local time (-7hrs GMT). Try those hours.
