Something else to consider (you know, for those of you who haven't yet bought boxes!) are pillow mailers -- I think they're a bit lighter than boxes seem to cost less to ship. For a nice example, see skywriter invitations' "sandpiper" invite (link here).

I was told that these tend to cost only about $0.80 to send. Just thought I'd throw the idea out there. =)

Have you taken yours to the post office to find out how much they'll cost you?

I haven't, I'll probably take it one day this week since I went to send them all out in January. Just so I can get an idea on how much it is all going to cost.

Did your guests comment on the invites in the boxes? I'm worried I'm going to spend 12 hours trying to put all the layers together and all the extra postage and everything and my FI is like, nobody saves invitations anyway, why do you care (I save them ha!), and my sis is like, shouldn't you spend the money on wedding stuff at the wedding instead, etc. (I have to send 150 invites)

I did send one invitation to see how well it held up in the mail. It cost $1.69.
I ended up wrapping them in white craft paper and my parents said that it still looked really nice. I'm mailing all of the invitations in the next few weeks and will take pictures of EVERYTHING for everyone to see.
