Looking at dresses tonight!

Recommended Posts

I got talked into going to look at dresses tonight, I'm going to meet my best friend and I told her that I do NOT want to try any on tonight, since I can't buy one until after Christmas, and I don't want to fall in love with something when I put it on and not be able to own it! I just want to get an idea for what they look and feel like in person, since I've never in my life paid attention to wedding dresses before!

So wish me luck that I see some that I like and want to go back and try on later, and wish me luck that I don't find any I just have to have tonight!

Tonight? You have places that are open late?

I have 2 appointments tomorrow to try dresses on - with the hopes that I find something in case I really do get married in May, as everyone tells me that isn't enough time to get a dress...so I'll wish us both luck :). It is fun and then they put a veil on you and you realize - wow, I'm getting married?

Well, I am VERY discouraged. I was not into it 'cause I was hot and grumpy and the dress I thought I liked in pictures turned out to be not what I thought it would be in person. So now I am feeling like I have NO idea what kind of dress I'd like, and also I was extra grumpy having to look in the size section I had to look in. Why do those idiot men (sorry guys, but you know it wasn't a woman who decided to do this!) have to size the most important piece of clothing you will ever buy so that it makes you feel like a lard coated stay-puft marshmallow-man? Needless to say, I did not try anything on and did not take any pics.

~I did see a couple that I would settle for, but nothing that screamed, "PICK ME!"

~mauraw and nylalany-- how did your appointments go?

I'd like to know about the sizing of wedding and bridesmaid dresses too! My daughter, who is normally a size 4 or 6, ended up with a size 12 wedding dress. My other daughter who is usually a 6 ended up with a size 10 bridesmaid dress. I hope this isn't a ploy to get me to pay a fortune in alterations. Anyone know why sizing on bridal attire is like this?

don't worry about the sizes, my dress was two sizes bigger than my own clothing size and I just decided that if any person asked me what size my dress was they would immediately be asked to leave my wedding, so honestly who cares what size it is, just focus on what makes you feel beautiful and amazing. That's what is important. Try again after holidays, this is a hard time for shopping in general.

Don't be discouraged! Just think, you have already narrowed all the choices down and can concentrate on finding that special dress. Don't stress about size because it is only a number and I know your groom will think you are the most beautiful sight ever when he finally sees you in your dress!

My dress was like 4 sizes bigger than my normal clothing size, so really don't worry about that.

Don't forget that when buying a dress it will look completely different on the rack than it will on your body - so don't not put on a dress you don't think looks good on the rack because on you it might look absolutely amazing! (I thought my dress was ugly on the rack but my mom talked me into trying it on and I absolutely fell in love with it once it was on me!)

You've got plenty of time before you need to decide though so don't stress - you'll find the perfect one in time :)

Well, I was super nervous about trying on dresses because it was my first time. But I actually had fun. The place I went doesn't allow you to take photos but my friend was able to sneak a few. They hardly left us alone long enough to get the photos she was able to take! The only two we were able to get photos of were Monique Lhuillier gowns. I also tried on some Alvina Valenta gowns because there was a trunk show, but nothing I was crazy about.

This one was two piece (skirt separate from the lace top) and even though the top didn't fit me and my girl there had to pin it shut with super strength pins for it to close over my boobs, this is the first dress I tried on that made me really feel like a bride. She also tied the sash up too high, but I did like this dress a lot. I about died when I saw the price though! smile120.gif

This next one I absolutely loved on (but hated it on the hanger -- what Melissa said about trying everything on even if you think it looks ugly on the rack is so true!) but couldnt get them out of the dressing room long enough while I was wearing it to get a photo, haha. It's a drop waist and made me look 15 pounds thinner! The boning in it was actually very comfortable --totally to my surprise. The only thing is that I'm having a church wedding and the dress is strapless, so to customize it to cover my shoulders would be like another $400! The price of this dress was even worse than the first. Totally out of my budget, but I felt great wearing it.smile43.gif

I have an appointment next Saturday at White Chicago, a place that sells new, sample and "once worn" designer gowns, so we will see how that goes. Totally glad I only took one friend with me on the first time out though. Some other girl there had an entourage of like 8 people and it was making ME nervous! By the way for those of you who haven't tried on gowns yet... the one hour appointment goes by incredibly fast! I think I only tried on a total of 4 gowns. OH! And Abbie don't get depressed about the size thing. I'm normally a small size 8 and they were bringing me 10s and 12s. My plan is to have my seamstress rip out the actual size tag and sew in one that I feel more comfortable with people seeing wink.gif

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
