RIU Los Cabos trying to make it hard for all of you to choose your photographer

Recommended Posts

The day pass charge has been there for sometime and I also agree that it is reasonable, but to not let the photographer take photos in the ceremony I had not heard before and I really don't think they could tell the bride that the photographer she hired cannot take photos of the ceremony, imagine the screams of the bride if that would happen, so they might say it but I really don't think they would dare to not let the photographer take photos of the ceremony unless it is on a contract or something like that.

A few months ago I had a wedding there where the bride told the coordinator that she prefered for the photographer that was included in the package to not go to the ceremony even though it was part of the package and in another wedding I saw someone taking photos at a wedding and I tought it was a guest taking photos of the ceremony but it was infact the photographer from the hotel and he just took photos of the ceremony and then he left but I did have a harder time taking photos because he was sometimes in my way.

What I have told the brides getting married at the RIU that if their package includes the photographer to have him if they like but for him to shoot with a telephoto (a big lens) so that he can be far away and not be in the way but I am not sure if he has a big lens or not, I have only seen him in one wedding.

The photographer that has the contract with the RIU hotel is a very nice person and I do have to admit that he tried to stay out of my way but since he had a short lens he had to be kind of close to the ceremony and that was sometimes a problem for me. I always take a big lens to be far from the ceremony to try to stay out of what it is to be for family & friends not for the photographer.

thanks for the great info Juan... I hope we have no problems for my wedding in May 2008? This is just yet another bad comment about our hotel... The only reason I picked RIU instead of Dreams was because they didnt have a disco and my guests are party people.. Now Im super worried.. Thankfully we have you booked a few days after for our Trash the Dress Pictures away from the Hotel...

Cant wait to meet you Juan!

You will not have a problem, if they did not specify before then you sre free to do as you please, just remember to have the emails they sent to you or your contract in case they want to change something without telling you about it.

Can't wait to meet you guys.

The other thing that I rememebered from one wedding at the RIU is that if any of you girls want to have your wedding at the RIU and you also want to have an outside wedding coordinator, you can do what a bride did for her wedding, she had about 150 guests and she told the hotel that if she is to have her wedding there that she wanted to be able to have an outside wedding coordinator and since the hotel knew how much money they would loose from what the bride wanted at her wedding, they just let her have whatever she wanted. I believe she had whatever she wanted and I believe the outside wedd. coordinator did not pay for the day pass, but don't quote me on this last thing because I am not completely sure that the wedding coordinator not paying for the day pass.

Wow, I just was married at the Riu in Ocho Rios, Jamaica and we had the best time. The wedding coordinator Chandlyn was pretty cool and we even brought our own photographer, Rob from Humbled Eyes Photography - Award winning, stylish, unique and fresh documentary destination wedding photographer - Rob Nicholson The wedding department asked the hotel photographer to leave the wedding because he was getting in the way of everything. We paid for our photographers hotel and airfare, but we did not pay anything to the resort for having him. But i think we were supposed to pay $250 to not have the hotel photographer shoot the wedding. Which is pretty weird, but we never ended up paying it. From all the previous posts, sounds like not many people like RIU. We had an awesome experience, I was pretty shocked to read the troubles others were having.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
