RIU Los Cabos trying to make it hard for all of you to choose your photographer

Recommended Posts

I just got off the phone with a groom to be for a wedding in November at the RIU Los Cabos and this is what they told him concerning bringing their own photographer, so they decided to ditch the RIU and go with the dreams hotel and all because they told him about the photographer rules:

Quote from the wedding coordinator of the RIU:

_______________________________________________

"I checked with the manager of the hotel, you can have the photos that are included on your package, but if you are going to bring your own photographer, please i´m going to request to do this photos before, not during the ceremony.

Also for the photographer you need to pay a day pass by the rate at the front desk ($100 us) or you need to buy at least 1 hour for photo package or the video package in case that you don´t want hours for photo. This is because we have a contract with a photographer and he has the exclusivity to take the photos for our events."

I am sure the RIU will loose a lot of weddings by doing this, but thats the deal they did with the photographer that has a contract with the hotel, it does not matter if you like the style of the photographer of the hotel, you are to stick with him, as they say for the ceremony.

Imagine bringing the photographer "you" want and for him or her not being able to shoot the ceremony! just because it's the hotel rules, I really cannot believe it!

I think this is just completely wrong!smile105.gif

RIU Los Cabos can be a very strange hotel indeed. I got the general impression from the staff (especially front desk) that they really don't care much about you as a guest. And if they can't treat me or my guests right, I can't imagine what it would be like having a wedding there!

That's really unfortunate to hear. It seems like they don't care at all whether they get bad reviews, publicity and the like! They know that they will have new unsuspecting guests no matter what and they are just looking to make money.

I"m starting to wonder if we made the right choice by picking the Riu to stay at for our wedding. (not to have our wedding there, but just to stay)

That sucks, and the RIU is not the first resort to have that rule either. I wonder if the resorts know how much business they loose because of rules like this. Photography is on the top of almost every brides list as being the most important vendor they will hire.

Oh the RIU! From my wedding last month this was the same rule - almost. I had to pay a $70 daypass for the outside vendors I hired. I was told the fee was $100 for a guest daypass and $70 for vendors. Regardless, this ONLY applied if the vendor was eating at the resort. I thought this was pretty standard for most resorts but perhaps not. Honestly, I think all of us would agree it would be worth the extra $70 or $100 to have Juan shoot our weddings....but I also believe it seems the RIU is really good at ripping wedding couples off.

Well, that's just ONE of several reasons why I would never recommend RIU. Some other reasons are....

They WON'T let you outside WC in, unless you pay the 100 dollar day pass.

They WILL make a huge scene if your WC gets in without paying, even if they told you or forgo to let you know.

I was witness to both of those episodes, at RIU Los Cabos, I was helping out my girlfriend (the outside WC) and the GENERAL MANAGER and the in site Wedding coordinator (Daniela whatsername) start treating like hell and threating us to call the police unless we pay'em.... All of this near (way to much) of the WEDDING PARTY..

So girls, think twice and be very careful, they're not very professional, they've lost IPods, cameras, laptops, and some other things, and they won't pay for them or even say SORRY...

ok Bye now

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
