Parasol questions: travel & security

Recommended Posts

I want to get some parasols but Iâ€m worried about how I will take them to Mexico with me. How has everyone packed them and how did security at the airports handle them? Do they all have to be opened up and inspected? Also, what size should I get?

I was hoping not to bring too much stuff with me, but Iâ€ve resigned myself to bringing at least one Checked in Bag even though it means picking it and rechecking it on our layover. Any advice on this would be great. Thanks.

Hey, just realized we are wedding twins!!

I am going to Jamaica, not Mexico, but same thing when trying to bring stuff in, right?

I bought this one from Luna Bazaar - 28 Inch Gilded Mango Paper Parasol. Estimated availability mid-January.

I thought it was going to be bigger, cuz it looked so small when I opened it up, but when I held it and looked in the mirror, it looked perfect. I bought mini ones for the flower girls too. Only in white.

I bought some from OTC, I think they were 22", there not oversized, but perfect for what we wanted, think normal umbrella size.

They came in a box of 12, I just put them in my checked bags, we didn't have any problems, but our bags didn't get searched either.

I saw that you mentioned having to pick up your checked bags during your layover? We only had to do this on the way home because of customs, but on the way there we didn't get our bags until we were in mexico.

I got white chinese wedding umbrellas from asianideas.com. They were 42" diameter x 28.5" (opened). I packed them in a suitcase with all my other decor, and it never got checked- I guess I got really lucky going through customs. Also, my guests took them home afterwards and no one mentioned having trouble.

I had the same ones, in a box of 12, and I packed with all my other decor. I put a note on top that said, "Items for a wedding", but they never opened my suitcase.

Hooray for Wedding Twins! cheer2.gif
Thanks for all the replies. I love the mango parasol. I will have to double check on the whole layover picking up luggage thing. I was just worried of US security wanting to open each one, I like the idea of labeling the luggage as wedding items.
Jilly76: Do you have pictures of the OTC parasols being used at your wedding? Thanks!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
