Actually, TammyM used Alamo, MariaElena used Payless and was very happy:

This is the quote from Tammy M's site visit:
"Alamo car rental: C-
OMG that car was a piece of crap. It had a really bad ticking sounds, the muffler was hitting the ground and scraping it and the inside door step pad on the passenger side kept falling off. Seriously I thought the car was going to fall apart or stall out at any given moment
."

This is the quote from MariaElena's site visit:
"Rental Car
We used Payless thanks to Sarahâ€s (AQHARIDER) tip. We got a VW Jetta for 10 days for $117 with tax. Iâ€m so glad we took Sarahâ€s advice. Someone from Payless met us outside the airport and took us to their office. There was no hassle. We were not forced to buy the extra insurance. There were no tricks. Everyone else that used Thrifty, Hertz, Europecar, etc. and thought they were getting a better deal due to online and/or coupon discounts were unhappy because they got crappier cars and/or were forced to buy the extra insurance. Most people ended up with Jettas which we referred to as the “Jetta Express†when were following each other
."

I know I have their brochure somewhere, I just have to look for it in the mountain of paperwork in my office. I just worked 96 hours in the last 10 days, and am going out with my sweetie tonight for the first time in 2 weeks (yay!). Give me a day or two, if you haven't heard back- remind me because I just woke up and might not remember this. Wow I can ramble...
Anyhow, we had made reservations with another company and weren't happy, so we marched ourselves over to the Payless place and they gave us a car on the spot. I also have tried reserving a car online and it gives an outrageous quote, howevere, try booking it for, say, next week and it will give you a very cheap price. I plan to just wait until we get a little closer, then call them and ask for the same deal I got in September (very cheap compact car for like $95 for the week- that's all, no insurance, no nothing).

Jenesis,

We used Alamo and paid a total of $281 for 9 days (including EVERYTHING, but we declined the CDW insurance).

I would just forget about Payless and shop around. I used Dollar when I went in June and they were great too.

The cars can be kinda crappy, but who cares because you are just driving around on crappy old roads half the time anyway...at least that was my thinking!

I finally found my paperwork from Payless! Sorry, I forgot about it until yesterday...
Their phone # is 01(624) 142-55-00, this is what is printed at the top of my receipt. I've never called Mexico before, so I'm not sure how to call this number. I'll deal with that in a couple months! We drove a Dodge Verna (never seen this type of car before in my life!) for 7 days for $92.75 USD.

Let me know if you have any more questions!

Sarah--

Do you recall how you booked the car through Payless? The car rental rates right now sort of suck, Iâ€m getting $250 rates for a week through the Payless website. I called Mexico using the number you provided and was quoted $55 dollars per day for a compact car and 70 for a midsized car including full coverage insurance (purchased separately their insurance plans cost 14 or 23 depending on coverage).

BTW my FI and I used Hertz when we went down for our visit and ended up with a Nissan Tsuru which was pretty old and did not have power steering. Parking was impossible for me. I would NOT recommend Hertz.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
