We are going for a site visit the 14th thru the 17th. We are staying at the El Dorado Royale and plan on visiting Secrets Capri and Excellence Rivera. But I feel like I am not doing enough. Does anyone have suggestions? We are expecting around 45 people (no kids).

I guess that depends on whether or not one of the resorts you see really hits you as "the one", but it sounds like you are giving yourself a little time to relax too. Maybe you should have a few resorts as back-up incase you really don't like what you see at one of those three, but otherwise I think its great you aren't packing so much in so you can enjoy yourself a bit!

On another note, a few of the other brides are wondering how far the nearest restroom is to the white gazebo area and the gazebo 55 area at EDR. Some of us got conflicting answers from the WC on this and it is something to really consider if having a reception at these locations. I am personally not going to be utilizing these areas, but if you wouldn't mind taking note while you are there I think Mrs.VtoB and a few others would like to know. Thanks!

I would also consider the Royal in Playa del Carmen. It sounds like what you are looking for. It is similar to Excellents, Secrets, and El Dorado Royale as its an upscale, adult only all inclusive. The amenities package (at least compared to EDR) is a lot cheaper. For example. the Mariachis at EDR are $900 for 45 minutes and $450 at the Royal. When I met with the WC at the Royal during my site visit they said they would not charge for bringing in an outside photographer. may have changed though... Good luck!! In less than 2 months I can tell you how weddings are at the EDR!

The Royal is one of my favorite hotels in Playa, however I'm not sure how their wedding services are. It is absolutely fabulous tho, and if you get a chance you should definitely check it out! When you exit the hotel's front lobby you are literally in downtown Playa. Perfectly positioned for guests to be able to get out on their own a little and wander the town.

Good luck! :)

I don't have any hotel suggestions, but I would also consider taking a trip to the local walmart and supermarket. I don't know about you, but it made me feel better to know what was available to me in case something came up. It sounds totally random, but I was planning on shipping tiki torches bc I really want them for my rehearsal dinner, and I found them at home depot for 3 bucks each instead of the 8 my hotel wanted to charge me!

Okay, don't get upset, but I just want to lower your expectations for any interaction you might have with the Lomas WCs at the EDR. We did a site visit in May and absolutely loved the resort and all of the staff (including the hotel WC that works with Lomas- Abigail). However, we did not have a productive meeting with the on-site Lomas WCs. I think part of this is that they are not used to working with brides before they show up on-site. They didn't even really know what we were looking to do when we tried to arrange it through our TA. They did set up an appointment with the photog, which I'm glad they did b/c we decided to use someone outside after seeing his portfolio and speaking with him.

Since our return, I've been working with Valeria (she is the one of the WCs you work with in afance and she gives all the info to the on-site coordinators) and she has been stellar. I'm not sure how they wedding will come off but from the reviews I've read they go smoothly for the most part and the brides leave happy. Here's hoping it works out!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
