How long did YOU wait?

Recommended Posts

Not what you think, naughty kids!

How long did you wait between the time you got engaged and the time you went dress shopping? I am dress-obsessed, but haven't got the guts to go shopping yet since I'm not very happy with my body right now. I dont want to take the chance of finding The One and then having to have expensive alterations last minute if I lose weight or YIKES gain weight! Just wondering what everyone else did...

I had to go shopping basically right away. We have a really short engagement and I didn't want to pay extra to rush order my dress. With your wedding being in early July you should probably go anytime between now and January.

I waited a while, I started looking but until we firmed up our location plans I didn't want to get the wrong dress for my location. Either way I wound up with a couple of different dresses because I kept changing my mind.

So I would say if you have a long engagement, start looking for the type you might want but don't buy until you are absolutely sure.

oh wait I see you are getting married in 7 months, oh go for it, go shop girl!

I got engaged in late May of this year and I didn't really feel like shopping for a dress. My wedding is May 10, 2008 so I thought I had plenty of time. I was just excited doing the research to pick out a location. I spent many months doing that. But the first time I went dress shopping was probably in early August. Then I kept trying on dresses and more dresses and started freaking out because I never thought I would find "the one". Some of the stores take 6 months to get them in, blah blah blah. So I started going everywhere and I finally found it. I would definitely start looking now and maybe wait until you are at a more comfortable weight for you to actually buy the dress so you know what size to get. Or just buy one size smaller and use that as motivation!! You will find the perfect dress for you. Just get out there and start looking for it!! :)

I got engaged in November and ordered my dress in March. It came in around September. I had fitting #1 in October and #2 the first week of November.

With 7 months you should go now for sure. I would hate to see you have to pay for a rush order or rush alterations. Plus, it is just added stress to be worring about that stuff. I haven't sweat about my dress being ready for a single second bc I went so early. Also - you are gorgous as you are and the right dress will look amazing on you today - no need to wait!

Thanks Kate, but I would rather NOT look like this when the big day comes with everyone staring at me and making me feel self conscious! Also I don't want to look back on my pictures in 20 years and wish I had lost weight first and gotten the "Vavavavoom dress" instead of the "I'm fat and frumpy cover-up dress". Hehe :)

And dang it all, if I had known I was gonna get engaged in October and want a summer wedding, I could have lost weight before all that and been done with it! But NO, Doug had to go and propose without a thought to the planning part! Haha, totally J/K! I just have to buckle down.

Oops, I just focus.gif hijacked my own thread!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
