The $26,360.00 Wedding Coordinator...WTH?!!

Recommended Posts

So I received a quote today from a reputable wedding coordinator in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The amount I was quoted in a full excel sheet was...drum roll please...$26,360.00. I nearly fell off my chair.

Why you ask?

Well, because this price did not include the big ticket items - alcohol, entertainment, villa rental, transportation, etc. I couldn't believe it. So what the heck am I paying for - her services, cake, ceremony, reception, food and a few additional items. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought getting married in PV was suppose to be affordable. Am I wrong? Instead I feel like I might as well get married at the Plaza in New York City, especially when the breakdown included $158 per head, keep in mind this only included one hour of open bar of general alcohol (wine, beer, sangria). WTH?!? I don't want to disclose the name or company, but am I naive in my thinking that its possible to get married in PV for less than $35k?

Can someone shed some light? I want a beautiful wedding but not willing to be bamboozeled into paying for extra items, especially since the peso weaker than the dollar.

Am I being unreasonable?

Ok I'm totally biased but have you looked into Las Caletas? It's extremely affordable and an open bar is part of the cost. They have switched their packages around a bit, but I know for sure it's a gorgeous wedding that's easier on the pocket book than $26K.

Plus tons of girls have gotten married there so you have a very honest review and insights.

I think you can do a LOT better than $26K. That's a scary price to pay...especially when your other costs (attire, rings, travel, etc.) is not part of that cost.

hmmm, let me guess who sent you that quote, lol! I think I had the same reaction when I recieved it.

I will be honest though, when all is said and done, our PV wedding is going to cost about the same as one here in L.A. HOWEVER, it will be 10x better!

That's a lot and I'm pretty sure I know who sent you that quote as well...lol You wouldn't be disappointed but you can definitely beat that price with other companies/venues.

I also suggest Las Caletas where I got married, very unique place and you'll pay half that or less depending on how you do things. You get to party on land and sea, plus, the only people within miles of your ceremony will be your guests and the staff....yeah I'm biased too!

And just to add, I'm pretty sure I know who you got this quote from as well. This is one of the first places I contacted and I was pretty frazzled thinking I would not be able to afford a wedding in PV and would have to change plans. So not true. :)

I can't wait to see some Mayan weddings too. That place looks gorgeous.

pretty sure i can guess too! but really, are you sure you need an outside wedding coordinator? there are so many places that have their own and they do a great job (Dreams, I hear the new one is good anyway, and of couse - Las Caletas!). But so many options - and very few girls paid for extra services - or at least not that much - not even a fraction! If you go to the high end coordinator, unfortunately you're going to pay high end prices!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
