This thread has been super helpful... My mom is stressing out what dress and then what shoes since we are getting married on the beach.. So it's making the dress convo even more complicated... For those that got married on the beach did ur moms wear sandles then change to more formal shoes after?

We ended up buying a dress off the rack from Dillard's of all places (but I don't think you guys have them up there in NJ?!)

we tried several bridal shops but the "traditional" MOB dresses were too formal, and too expensive for that matter (the ones she liked we'd have to hem, and then make a bolero for it on top of all that).

here's what she ended up with:

you may want to try Macy's off the rack, or even Norstrom's. The dresses we found were in their special occasions dress department, but weren't special order.

Sorry about the links above - it looks like the one brings you to a white dress - which is so not what I was going for.  I liked the green color, but my MIL said last night she looked like she had on a sack when she tried it on.  We did have success though so here are the dresses that my mom and my MIL bought. This is the one my mom got and loves from Banana Republic 1000x500px-LL-41c24b80_BananaRepublicbr834879-00qlv01.jpg And this is the dress that my MIL got from Talbot's (or some version of the same print anyway) with a matching wrap/scarf. 1000x500px-LL-811bf41d_Talbots11036133_4072.jpg Good luck and happy dress hunting to everyone!
My mom's dress is similar to your mom's from BR- she was worried it might be too casual for the occasion, but I'm all for it! The wedding party is wearing cotton dresses and khakis/white shirts, so it will all be casual. Plus it will be HOT!

My mom and future MIL both got their dresses at JC Penney.  I was amazed because my Mom never shops there.  I think even she couldn't believe it, but they really have some decent dresses for a great price.  She loves her dress and was excited she only spent $50.  I even got a great maxi dress to wear on the trip for $40!

I didn't see the exact dress on their site but it's similar to some of the dresses on this link.  It's their American Living brand and was made of a stretchy comfortable fabric and a vibrant turquoise/blue color.

I really like the MIL dress. Where did you find it?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
