Should I Forgo The Wedding Cake ?

Trying to decide between a traditional cake, cupcakes, donuts, or some other type of fun dessert in place of cake.

 

What are your thoughts on this? Would you miss the cake at a wedding if there were other desserts replacing it? Have any good ideas for a replacement?

I think you can go with cupcake instead of simple cake, you can also decorate these cupcakes with cupcakes stand and it looks more stylish.

I thought about going with cupcakes or cake pops, but with our buffet dinner we selected comes with 4 dessert options. my FI is not a sweets person, so he says 'skip the wedding cake'. We were not planning on doing a formal cake-cutting either - it's just not our style. I flip flop on this decision nearly every day - one day I'm okay with no cake, the next, I feel we're missing something without the wedding cake....

 

Plus, at least at our resort, you can't bring any food from the reception, so we can't even bring the top tier back with us for the "put in the freezer and eat on the first anniversary" tradition. 

 

I ask myself - what purpose/value does the wedding cake mean to us, as a couple?

I have also been debating the same. So what we decided was that since there are other dessert options for our guests, we are purchasing a small 2 person cake just to "cut the cake"

Your wedding should stem from your own inspiration and preferences! If you're not a cake fan, that's totally OK and your guests will be OK with it too! There are lots of alternatives to the traditional wedding cake -- the main question is, would you and your sweetheart miss having traditional cake cutting photos? Yup...according to me, no desert can take place of wedding cake. it's a sweet tradition which should be followed. Either it's simply your choice, after all, it's your wedding. you can replace wedding cake with cup cakes if you want

​We just had our wedding in Mexico in December, and we decided to serve the guests a dessert from the menu (we chose a chocolate mouse/crème brulee combo), which everybody loved.  We bought the smallest cake possible to do the cake cutting.   We had done a cake tasting before the wedding, and while the cake itself was awesome, we didn't like the fondant icing.  So this worked out great for us - I'd recommend it if you are on the fence about the cake.  We got the best of both worlds.

Yes, I have definitely been to a wedding where there was no actual cake, but I think they may have had a fake one just there as a prop, as you said, for the photos maybe? I don't even really get why it's such a big deal for photos but anyway, I certainly don't think it's necessary to have a cake.
