Generations Riviera Maya Brides 2018***

Recommended Posts

Hey Ladies! Our date is set for 3/23 - chapel ceremony and reception on the sky deck.  We're thinking of minimal decor in the chapel, since the ceremony is so quick and the chapel looks beautiful in pics as is.

Does anyone know the location options for the cocktail party? We'd like to offer it to our guests so we can sneak off and take pics before the reception.  Any advise from former brides? We just created our spreadsheet this weekend with the options we're interested in.

I've been reading the forums and noticed the lighting option for the sky deck is $1500? Do they have cheaper alternatives?

Thanks in advance for the help and suggestions!

Hey ladies!! I'm baaack!

I'll give you a guys a rundown as best as I can remember it. LOL!

My HUSBAND (AHHHHH!!!) and I arrived Thursday October 5th at Generations. Our travel agent upgrades all her brides and grooms to private transfer from the airport to the resort so we had a private SUV which was niiiiice. You couldn't tell us ANYTHING. LOL!!

Check in was pretty standard. The lobby was nice. They pour glasses of welcome bubbly for you and get you all situated. It was about noon when we arrived so our room wasn't ready yet but they took our bags and gave us a ride to the resort (the lobby is a separate building), and told us to check in at the butlers lounge in about an hour to see if our room was ready.

We got over to the resort building (Generations) and had lunch at Chef Market. (Buffet style restaurant) The food was great, we had several shots of tequila to get the party started and then headed to the butlers lounge to check on our room. The room was ready so they programmed our key and called a golf cart to take us to our building.

The room was FANTASTIC! The living room ended up being so nice for when we had guests come to hang out, the dining room table ended up being the staging area for all the decorations I brought, the view was breathtaking and the bathroom was well up to my standards. There was welcome fruit, champagne and the bags were brought up promptly. Our cake vendor picked us up from the resort so we could do a cake tasting off site. That went well. Once we got back, we unpacked, enjoyed the view, layed around and then showered and got ready for dinner. Our travel agent made us reservations at the Wine Kitchen which was good and the rest of the evening went well. We returned to the room to find a fresh bouquet of flowers and cute chocolate covered strawberries. We started hearing more about Hurricane Nate and started getting worried as it was supposed to do damage Saturday when the majority of our guests were arriving.

A few of our guests added a day to their trip so they arrived Friday. We met up with them for lunch at Chef Market which was nice. (More shots of tequila) We met with our wedding coordinators in the Butler's lounge and went over all the details. Everything was as it had been sent over to them the month prior.

Saturday the rest of our guests arrived. My husband somehow managed to see almost all of them at some point while he was running around handing out welcome letters. (He's a keeper.) At some point someone brought up a little box with a loofah and chocolate scented lotion, body scrub and linen spray. Super cute. Our welcome dinner was in chef market and the food was amazing. They brought plates of salad, rice, potatoes, veggies, and then fish chicken and steak. Basically buffet style on the table. All the meat was super tender and ridiculously delicious. As I'm sure you've guessed, tons of shots.    We went to upstairs to Sling Bar and continued the party after dinner was over. Super nice laid back bar with Hookah if that's your thing. Oh...and hurricane Nate gave us no issues.   ;)

Sunday...THE BIG DAY!! One of the wedding coordinators came up about 4 hours before hand to go over the weather forecast with us. We had already quickly learned that the weather was FAR from predictable there and you could never rely on the weather forecast as it LITERALLY changes by the minute. So when it showed rain in the forecast starting about 6, 7pm we weren't sure what to do. Our back up location was Jade restaurant at Generations so we asked to go see it. My husband was not the least bit thrilled about the possibility of not being able to use the Sky Deck. Totally understandable. However I was much more willing to be inside and know we would be comfortable AND that we wouldn't be losing out on money. (If we chose to stick with the sky deck and it rained, they would move us, but the food and the DJ would be done.) So after a little discussion, we agreed to have the reception at the restaurant. The ceremony would stay on the Pier and the cocktail hour would stay on the sky deck so we could at least have the experience up there.

We went back to our room and the butler called to let the Mr. know his grooms room was ready. His room was stocked for 3 people as it was just him and his best man....he had enough alcohol for a small army. LOL!

Once I got myself ready, someone came to my building to pick me up on a golf cart. They drove me over to the butlers lounge where they had me wait until they got word from the pier that they were ready for me. You will be able to see in a picture or 2 that the humidity is NO JOKE! I totally underestimated it. Definitely keep that in mind. My hair from the butlers lounge to the pier (less then 2 minutes) was 2 different heads of hair.

They did a great job with start and stop on the music. LOL. The minister did a great job. And then we were married! It did indeed rain so we only managed to get a few photos right after the ceremony. Which ended up being great because we got to spend more time with our guests during cocktail hour (Free through our travel agent). We headed to Jade and had appetizers and drinks until the reception. Our signature drink was the blue lagoon. The waiters and the wedding coordinators checked in on my husband and I constantly which was nice. They did an amazing job with the set up of the restaurant to accommodate our needs. The MC came over and introduced himself and double checked names for pronunciation so that was nice as well.

The food again was amazing. I'm really hoping my photographer got pictures of it because I did NOT.   :(  But it was the BBQ deluxe which was set up buffet style in the middle of the restaurant. Again, the meat was tender, the sides were great and it was good variety of everything, desserts included.

The DJ literally kept the party going. They broke up glow necklaces and balloons and it was a party right up until the last second. He did a great job of feeling out the crowd and going from 1 song to the next without missing a beat.

We got back to the room and had a cute little towel bouquet on the bed with rode petals. We also had another plate of chocolate covered strawberries. Breakfast the next morning was sooo good and it was sooo much food. Which was needed after....you guessed it...lots of shots. LOL!!!

Needless to say even without using the Sky Deck everything ended up being perfect. We would have been completely MISERABLE even without the rain because it was so humid. It wouldn't have been nearly the good time as it was indoors in the air conditioning. There wasn't a single thing I would change and people are STILL talking about how our small group of 27 felt like a party of 100. All of our guests have already inquired about whether or not it's weird to return with us yearly for our anniversary. I don't think it is.

I've attached some pictures below. They're a little bit of everything. Some are pictures my husband and I took and others are guests pictures. Feel free to ask any and all questions you may have.

My travel agent is with World Bound Travel. We got transport to and from the airport for my husband and I and our guests. My husband and I had a private SUV. We got a $1000 flight credit with a certain # of rooms booked. We got a choice of a free cocktail hour, credit towards one of the resorts preferred photographers, or spa package mani, pedi, hair treatment, hair styling, brides rehearsal style, brides hairstyle on wedding day and mani and pedi for 1 member of the bridal party. Upgrade to 1 bedroom suite. Free events (2 hour cocktail hour, free 3 hour private dinner, or both based on # of rooms booked.) Hope this helps!

Hey everyone

...like Jacquelyn they have not created a discussion board for my wedding year yet (2019) BUT I am a perfectionist and plan early! I am trying to decide which package (Always & Forever or Ultimate) I should pick. The only difference I see in the package is that the Ultimate includes everything already instead of adding individual items/packages together. However, I am adding what I would like and it seems I may come out cheaper with individual packages added together...Maybe I'm adding this wrong? HELP PLEASE! Which packages were best for you?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
