Hey dolls!

I'm getting married October 8, 2017 at Generations Riviera Maya. We've been booked since June 2016, so now that the new year hit it's been game on with nailing down vendors, menus, etc. I will say it's bee a struggle finding pictures of past brides weddings, food, decor and what not. So I'm hoping to find some people willing to share. I'm a visual kinda girl and it's just easier to envision when you have a real life picture. So here's the rundown:

We have guests staying at Generations and El Doradao Royale. We liked that it will give guests the ability to basically get 2 for the price of 1 given that they can freely access both resorts. But we wanted people who weren't bringing kids to be able to stay somewhere without kids. lol.

We are having our ceremony on the Pier and the Reception on the Sky Deck. We took advantage of a promotion where we got both locations free. I ain't mad at that!    ;)

We're planning on doing a welcome dinner or cocktail hour for our guests Saturday night when they arrive. The wedding on Sunday at 5pm. And then possibly an excursion Monday. Everyone will go home Tuesday.

We're having our cocktail hour from 6-7 on the sky deck right after the ceremony. And we're going with the BBQ Deluxe for our reception dinner and I have read nothing but great things about it. I haven't come across recent pictures though, so if anyone has anyone or knows of a thread that has some...PLEASE point me in the right direction. I read a few mentions of a DJ All Music but not sure where to find info on him. The Lomas site only has a DJ Mix and DJ Max. lol. I'm leaning toward DJ Mix since it's a DJ and an MC.

I thought about doing a fire show for my guests Monday night as a thank you and farewell. Has anyone else experienced them? And how was it?

Thanks in advance ladies! I'm SOOOOOO excited. And feel free to ask me any questions. I'd love to see pics of those that are good and married by now.

Hi! That is so exciting! Your wedding is coming right up! Who are you using for photographer and videographer? Do you have everything pretty much picked out? We are getting married April 2018 and also doing sky deck. Did you see the new light option with the string lights above the tables? I think I like it better. I can send it to you if you would like.

Thanks so much! I'm so sorry I never saw this. We're down to 47 days!!! *SQUEALING*

(I just copied this from another thread I posted on, but it should answer your questions.)  :)

My ceremony is on the pier and the reception is on the sky deck. I just so happened to book last year when there was a promotion to get the location fee ($500) waived.

Prices with the resort are steep, however convenient as you won't incur the outrageous $800 outside vendor fee and you know set up and clean up will be taken care of.

I did manage to "bypass" my outside vendor fee. (As I'm someone that's HUGE on clarity.) My contract stated that the outside vendor fee would be charged for vendors that come onto the property." It didn't state that even if I go off the property and pick up the items I would still be charged. SO needless to say after a little back and forth, they honored that.

I'm flying in my photographer from home and he's staying as a guest so no vendor fee.

I'm using Love & Lace Wedding Decor for my wedding favors and I'd definitely use her for decor if I needed any. She'll deliver and pickup and she's amazing to work with. I'll pick up the favors off-site.

I'm having my cake made by Arte en Pastel. She delivers as well so I'll pick up the cake off-site.

Reception- I'm going with the BBQ Deluxe. I love the options and variety it'll give everyone.

I'm still debating on the $1,500 lighting for the sky deck. *EEK* I can't bring myself to justify it yet. LOL!

All in all I'm beyond excited. And I WILL post pictures once the celebration is over. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions along the way.

And yes! Please send me the light option you're referring to please. Is it the $1500 string of lights or something new?

Jacquelyn, could you share any pictures/advice since your big day!? Did everything go smoothly?! Getting married at GRM in January, also having guests stay at both GRM and EDR. Excited to know about your big day :)

Everything was absolutely amazing. I seriously don't regret the decision at all. Anybody here is welcome to stalk my Facebook and check out some pictures. I'm currently trying to put together an album of pictures to post specifically on here. Feel free to ask ANY questions and I'll try to get them answered.

I"ll give you a guys a rundown as best as I can remember it. LOL!

My HUSBAND (AHHHHH!!!) and I arrived Thursday October 5th at Generations. Our travel agent upgrades all her brides and grooms to private transfer from the airport to the resort so we had a private SUV which was niiiiice. You couldn't tell us ANYTHING. LOL!!

Check in was pretty standard. The lobby was nice. They pour glasses of welcome bubbly for you and get you all situated. It was about noon when we arrived so our room wasn't ready yet but they took our bags and gave us a ride to the resort (the lobby is a separate building), and told us to check in at the butlers lounge in about an hour to see if our room was ready.

We got over to the resort building (Generations) and had lunch at Chef Market. (Buffet style restaurant) The food was great, we had several shots of tequila to get the party started and then headed to the butlers lounge to check on our room. The room was ready so they programmed our key and called a golf cart to take us to our building.

The room was FANTASTIC! The living room ended up being so nice for when we had guests come to hang out, the dining room table ended up being the staging area for all the decorations I brought, the view was breathtaking and the bathroom was well up to my standards. There was welcome fruit, champagne and the bags were brought up promptly. Our cake vendor picked us up from the resort so we could do a cake tasting off site. That went well. Once we got back, we unpacked, enjoyed the view, layed around and then showered and got ready for dinner. Our travel agent made us reservations at the Wine Kitchen which was good and the rest of the evening went well. We returned to the room to find a fresh bouquet of flowers and cute chocolate covered strawberries. We started hearing more about Hurricane Nate and started getting worried as it was supposed to do damage Saturday when the majority of our guests were arriving.

A few of our guests added a day to their trip so they arrived Friday. We met up with them for lunch at Chef Market which was nice. (More shots of tequila) We met with our wedding coordinators in the Butler's lounge and went over all the details. Everything was as it had been sent over to them the month prior.

Saturday the rest of our guests arrived. My husband somehow managed to see almost all of them at some point while he was running around handing out welcome letters. (He's a keeper.) At some point someone brought up a little box with a loofah and chocolate scented lotion, body scrub and linen spray. Super cute. Our welcome dinner was in chef market and the food was amazing. They brought plates of salad, rice, potatoes, veggies, and then fish chicken and steak. Basically buffet style on the table. All the meat was super tender and ridiculously delicious. As I'm sure you've guessed, tons of shots.   We went to upstairs to Sling Bar and continued the party after dinner was over. Super nice laid back bar with Hookah if that's your thing. Oh...and hurricane Nate gave us no issues.  ;)

Sunday...THE BIG DAY!! One of the wedding coordinators came up about 4 hours before hand to go over the weather forecast with us. We had already quickly learned that the weather was FAR from predictable there and you could never rely on the weather forecast as it LITERALLY changes by the minute. So when it showed rain in the forecast starting about 6, 7pm we weren't sure what to do. Our back up location was Jade restaurant at Generations so we asked to go see it. My husband was not the least bit thrilled about the possibility of not being able to use the Sky Deck. Totally understandable. However I was much more willing to be inside and know we would be comfortable AND that we wouldn't be losing out on money. (If we chose to stick with the sky deck and it rained, they would move us, but the food and the DJ would be done.) So after a little discussion, we agreed to have the reception at the restaurant. The ceremony would stay on the Pier and the cocktail hour would stay on the sky deck so we could at least have the experience up there.

We went back to our room and the butler called to let the Mr. know his grooms room was ready. His room was stocked for 3 people as it was just him and his best man....he had enough alcohol for a small army. LOL!

Once I got myself ready, someone came to my building to pick me up on a golf cart. They drove me over to the butlers lounge where they had me wait until they got word from the pier that they were ready for me. You will be able to see in a picture or 2 that the humidity is NO JOKE! I totally underestimated it. Definitely keep that in mind. My hair from the butlers lounge to the pier (less then 2 minutes) was 2 different heads of hair.

They did a great job with start and stop on the music. LOL. The minister did a great job. And then we were married! It did indeed rain so we only managed to get a few photos right after the ceremony. Which ended up being great because we got to spend more time with our guests during cocktail hour (Free through our travel agent). We headed to Jade and had appetizers and drinks until the reception. Our signature drink was the blue lagoon. The waiters and the wedding coordinators checked in on my husband and I constantly which was nice. They did an amazing job with the set up of the restaurant to accommodate our needs. The MC came over and introduced himself and double checked names for pronunciation so that was nice as well.

The food again was amazing. I'm really hoping my photographer got pictures of it because I did NOT.  :(  But it was the BBQ deluxe which was set up buffet style in the middle of the restaurant. Again, the meat was tender, the sides were great and it was good variety of everything, desserts included.

The DJ literally kept the party going. They broke up glow necklaces and balloons and it was a party right up until the last second. He did a great job of feeling out the crowd and going from 1 song to the next without missing a beat.

We got back to the room and had a cute little towel bouquet on the bed with rode petals. We also had another plate of chocolate covered strawberries. Breakfast the next morning was sooo good and it was sooo much food. Which was needed after....you guessed it...lots of shots. LOL!!!

Needless to say even without using the Sky Deck everything ended up being perfect. We would have been completely MISERABLE even without the rain because it was so humid. It wouldn't have been nearly the good time as it was indoors in the air conditioning. There wasn't a single thing I would change and people are STILL talking about how our small group of 27 felt like a party of 100. All of our guests have already inquired about whether or not it's weird to return with us yearly for our anniversary. I don't think it is.

I've attached some pictures below. They're a little bit of everything. Some are pictures my husband and I took and others are guests pictures. Feel free to ask any and all questions you may have.

    • The two people who matters the most in this situation? You and your partner. It is nice to get an outside opinion but if you have too much of it? It will get messy! I am replying you my response after that has happened to me with my wedding. Although it is quite hard, do not think of the negative opinions. The people who will turn up to your wedding? You will always cherish them even more! That is what has happened with me because my friendship with the people who attended my wedding has improved so much more that I know I can rely on them and they can rely on me. It is disappointing that people will not attend your wedding but it is their loss, not yours. At the end of the day, when they see pictures and videos of your big day they will definitely regret missing out on such event. I am waiting to deal with the aftermath of my wedding from my so called friends, if they say anything they will get an earful! Happy planning, your big day will be worth it! Keep us up to date!
    • Wow, I cannot believe it's been over a year since I last posted! Better keep everyone up to date as everything ended up positive in the end! So, let's start with the situation with W. From my previous post, I have serious consideration removing him from the groomsmen because of the hurtful things he has said to me. Not too after my second post, I asked him once again whether he wants to be part of the groomsmen. The response was around the lines of "I need more solid information". This was before the restriction were lifted. Then he said it was down to finances yet again, even though he said he could have made it but because of what A said, W didn't commit no more. As W was being difficult, I decided to drop him as a groomsmen altogether and replaced him with someone else. Plan B was already in motion and tbh, I wish I did this first to avoid any hassle. Everyone who got invited in plan B all committed themselves to the wedding!  The situation with A is this. I was feeling sad that I was losing this friendship and that spark with him was gone. By the time it was gone, A was "ready" to meet up with me to discuss life and the wedding. When I said I lost spark with him, I really did. I knew that he was ready to meet up with me because it was convenient for him. For example, he wanted to meet up with me because he was driving past my house or was in the area visiting his relative. If he was not doing those things he would not want to meet up with me. Needless to say, every time he kept asking, I just said I was busy. I think deep down something was not right between me and A but he does not want to acknowledge it. I know that W had FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) because that's what he is like. Around the end of last year, rather than messaging me about the DW he went behind my back and asked my SO. He was scared of asking me because he knows if he asked me, I would literally get angry at him. He's nosey and was happy enough to be part of the groomsmen but he listened to A. W didn't asked once but twice to mg SO. My SO just said that she was busy and should ask me about the wedding, not her. W did messagee but not about the wedding plans. I felt this was a sly move by his part. If anything not having A and W there was a blessing in disguise. I met up with the other 4 groomsmen over one weekend and it turns out it was the most fun we all have had for a while. It was as if we continued from the previous conversations in the past as if nothing has changed. I am so glad and proud of this group of groomsmen and glad the other 2 dropped out. The suit fitting went really well and we hung out again to see whether the suits altered fitted or not.  Unfortunately my SO UK group, 5 out of 6 declined the invite. Only 1 accepted it. The other 5 had reasons ranging from good ones to poorer ones 😅 As long one of them turned up then it was good enough for us. My SO's bridesmaids also were amazing. No problems caused whatsoever and they were really excited that our wedding was abroad too! To make things work out before our DW, myself and SO planned out 2 weekends for both groomsmen and bridesmaids to hang out before the DW. We did this so we would not encounter any awkwardness for the first time in DW. Lo and behold, everyone got to know each other and we really are happy that the wedding party weekend went smoothly. I will keep this ambiguous because I do not want A and his group finding out. I got married to my SO this year. What time and month? I will leave this intentionally blank. The wedding itself was everything we have expected. The wedding planner was amazing. The photographer was also amazing too, so glad we went for him. The sneak peak photos are absolutely great, couldn't imagine that the photos turned out like that. The good itself was okay could be better but could be worse. The first dance went relatively well although my SO managed to cock up s move which only I know hahahaha. The wedding ceremony itself went really quickly. I was a bag of nerves to which one of the groomsmen bought the groomsmen a shot each to calm everyone down. It did calm me down for a little bit but the nerves started again with the speeches. I got emotional throughout the speeches. I was not expecting the tear up with the best man speech at all. My speech was meant for my SO but for some reason everyone in the room also cried as well 😂 The all night dancing and fun was the best bit. When every serious part was done, I was able to stop being nervous! The fun went through the whole night and I can see everyone really enjoyed themselves. It was as if myself and SO correctly guess that lockdown restrictions would end. Everyone was thankful that they managed to take part in the DW because they all have been stranded in the country for 3 years! Do I regret having a DW? Hell no! Although it was a smaller party everything was all under control. Everyone had a great time!  More information about my UK group. Some of them congratulated us which was nice to hear. Those congratulated us, I can keep contact. They knew it was difficult coming to DW. At least they are mature enough to say something about it and they did not get the invite. On the other hand, A and W kept constantly monitoring my account for updates along with my SO. It got to the point that W really FOMO that he I followed our stories/posts. A on the other hand is completely out of order. He was invited to DW but made it really uncomfortable to me that he was not happy with DW. During that week, he went on holiday to Spain. I get that Spain is much more cheaper than my DW but it still is annoying. A also said before that he has a few weddings to attend during our DW month. He has not attended any weddings which makes me think that he has lied to me. A and W has lied to me saying it was costly for them to come to my DW. They have both bought PlayStation 5 and went to many designer outlets. If they are so stumped on money why go and buy things? It just shows that they are not good friends at all. Overall good DW. I do not regret it one bit because I know if I did it in the UK, the experience will be a lot different. The UK definitely not as scenic as my DW! 🤣
    • Hi ! Myself and partner got engaged 7 months ago and we quite quickly asked our friends who we wanted in our wedding party (e.g bridesmaids, MOH and best men etc) who all agreed. After searching many English venues we have decided that we want to marry abroad, our dream is Mexico. We have been and priced this up today and we are incredibly happy. So we have put this forward to our friends and family who we really want there and now we are facing issues. My MOH and my partners Best man are together with a child, they now will not come unless we change to Spain or Greece. My brother, his wife and nephew can only come in one set week which isn't the time we want to marry and also will not come to Mexico. And both our Grandmother's won't come to Mexico.   What do we do? Do we carry on and go to Mexico with the people who will come or do we change our dreams and go to Spain or Greece?  Thoughts please, I'm getting to the point where I don't even want to marry as I'm fed up of friends and family ruining our ideas and dreams with their opinions.
    • What purpose does a ring actually have? I think they look nice, but to me, wearing a ring doesn’t mean a damn thing. I’m engaged. I’m in a happy, healthy and strong relationship. And to be fully honest if you are ever in a relationship that you’d be willing to risk because of the price of an engagement ring, your partner could do better.
    • My name is Marshall and I’m getting married in Punta Cana in June I am in search of a rabbi could you please help me
