Wedding Dress / Bridesmaids Dress For Destination Wedding In To

Recommended Posts

I have been to two wedding dress stores but have not found "my dress" wondering where people have bought dresses and have been happy with store/alterations.

I went to David's bad experience as they did not know what A line was.  Sash and Bustle were nice and helpful but not a lot of selection.

As for bridesmaids any idea where to go in Toronto?  Did you buy your bridesmaids dresses or did they pay for them?  As they are paying to come to the wedding worried about do you ask them to pay for dress to or not or pay half?  Any reasonably priced places for bridesmaids one would recommend?

Thanks

I was a bridesmaid three times in Toronto. One time the bride paid for the dress but only because there was conflict between the sister and her friends and then we were responsible for makeup and hair. The other two times, the bridesmaid is responsible to buying the dress but the bride paid for the makeup and hair. Bride is responsible for the bridesmaid bouquet too. Bridesmaid are also usually responsible for shoes and jewelry.

But you need to be mindful of your friend's budget too... If you require $300 dress + $100 new shoes + $50 jewelry... that's a lot of money and Bridesmaids usually plan and pay for the bachelorette (Bridal shower sometimes is the bride or family). All my friends were frugal and we got dresses around $100 and wore shoes we already had (Like black pumps or nude flats)

However, brides usually gives a gift. One bride paid for new shoes and another gave swaroski earrings on the wedding morning.

We went to places in Mississauaga; Sophie's Gown, Izabella and Best for Brides -- These three shops are pretty close to each other! They have wedding dresses too. Sophie's Gown also has a outlet next door so you could try your luck for a great deal.

There is also Ferre Sposa in Toronto that a friend a friend owns and it looks great but I've never been.

My friend got her dress from kleinfeld but she had a big budget.

As far as paying for the dresses - I have been MOH or BM in 4 weddings and always paid for my own dress.  I think the bride should cover their hair/makeup but more often than not I've had to cover that too in the weddings I've been in.

For our wedding, I am buying the dress for one of my bridesmaids as her birthday gift because I know that she's already tight on money saving to come to the destination wedding. Plus we selected dresses around $160 USD (showmeyourmumu.com) which I think is a little pricey.  My other two bridemaids are better off financially so I'm not worried about their dresses.

I am paying for hair/makeup for everyone.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
