For those of you doing an AHR DIY style... I am working on my guestlist. (Wow, more than I thought) and I am trying to guess an aproximate "per guest" cost. How should I go about beginning to guess this amount? I want to work on my budget and this is impossible without the per guest cost. I have not decided between a dessert only reception or cocktail reception. Either way, it will be DIY. I know this question may be difficult but any suggestions would be appreciated...Just not sure how to get started.

I am just trying to figure out how much my food is going to cost me. I have an AHR buget and wanna see how much I should estimate for food. Once I get a "formula" of some sort, I can work on changing the guest list and/or food served.

I am not sure if my question is an answerable one...just wanted to send out the question...maybe I just need to make a definate menu first and go from there.

I think you need to start with an approximate budget of what you want to spend.. then get pricing on different food/drink options.. then you'll know if you have to either cut the guestlist or the food budget.. You could do heavy horsdevours instead of dinner or change the time of your party to just have snacks and a signature cocktail or two.

If you're thinking about favors, you might figure on $3-6/per person.. you should be able to either make or find something that you love based on that number. You could always do something to mimic what you did for your actual wedding guests, ie we did custom koozies for our OOT Bags.. you could give those to everyone at the AHR or something native to Jamaica.

I am having the same issue. But for me I have to be under 100 people which is very very hard for me. I had to go through my list and somewhat over guess on the cost of everything. Im pretty much revolving everything around the max amounts of guests that will be there because it will be the worst case sinerio. Sorry this advice suck haha! Another thing I am doing is putting my invites out a little early because I need to know ahead of time how many people to expect.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
