  • 5 weeks later...

Hi everyone! I am getting married at the Hyatt Ziva April 20, 2018. I know it is super far in advance, but I am looking to see if anyone has information regarding the cost of all the "extras" (meaning flowers, centerpieces, decor, etc.). We are going to a wedding preview this coming April which we are super pumped about, but wanted to see if we could get a head start with looking at the other prices we need to consider.

Also, where is/was your reception?  Right now we are scheduled to have ours on the deck over by the gazebo but I am worried that  there is not enough space for our guests and a place to dance unless we order the $1,500 dance floor (which is just absurd to us).

Thanks in advance!

Hi @@Harrisc15

I'm getting married at the Hyatt April 7, 2018 (2 weeks before you!). I haven't discussed the extra costs with my wedding coordinator as yet as I am still in the early planning stages. I have a Big Day Preview scheduled for April 6th of this year and the resort's contracted florist (Tai Flora) will also be there for the preview.  I've already decided that I will not be utilizing Tai Flora for my wedding because their reviews are absolutely horrible and I had a family friend who used them for her wedding and had an awful experience. I've managed to locate a bunch of other florist in Montego Bay who has great reviews.  I plan on reaching out to them to request pricing but haven't got around to it as yet.

My wedding will be on the sky terrace. My cocktail hour will be on the East Lawn and my reception will be on the ballroom terrace. I'm having a pretty large destination wedding, about 120 guests so I have to use one of the ballrooms.

My fiance and I will be bringing in our own photographer, DJ, and makeup artist.  I was not impressed with the catalog of the resort's contracted photographer and the pricing was insane! I've already received price quotes from a few Jamaican based photographers. Even with the $500 vendor fee their packages were WAY better than the resort's photographer.

@@babijol, we are pretty much wedding twins- we are doing our wedding preview April 21! I apologize in advance, I will probably be pestering you a lot with suggestions/ideas/thoughts! If I get annoying just tell me to leave you alone! haha

Is the ballroom terrace and inside/outside area? We really wanted our reception to be outdoors, but we want to make sure we have enough space. I saw pictures of the lawn, it looks so beautiful with the ocean in the background

As for the the other vendors, let me know how it goes with the other florists with their prices, etc. We have friends who are guests to the wedding but are also going to be our photographer (I know- friendors are not a good idea but we are paying for their stay and flights and they insisted since I helped one of them with their divorce for free (I'm a divorce attorney). In any event, do you think we will have to still pay the vendor fee for them if they are guests at the hotel and wedding? I'm hoping not. But your are so right, almost $6K for 5 hours of photos? Absolutely insane! The DJ cost is insane as well. We were going to bite the bullet and just do it for the reception for 3 hours.  Who are you going to use for the DJ instead and what are their prices? I'm worried about the MUA too. How much is your girl? Does she do hair also?

Again, I am so sorry for the questions! Thanks!!

Hi,

Congrats! You'll be at the resort during my wedding weekend! I'm getting married on April 23rd! I'm having 70 guests, my ceremony will be at the sky lounge, cocktails on the east lawn and reception on the decks. If the ballroom terrace is available 45 days before my wedding then I'll be switching my reception to that location and the decks will be used for cocktails.

As far as costs for extras, they will send you a catalogue and you pretty much just ask for prices of things you want. They were pretty pricey so I'm brining my own centerpieces, chair ties, doing silk flowers for my 7 bridesmaids and brining my own napkins and sweetheart tablecloth. Just to give you an example, the cost for colored napkins is $7 per napkin.

I'll attach a photo of the decks set up because I had the same concern about spacing but I think it will be fine if you have the dancing area in front of the DJ booth.

I just saw your other questions lol!

You don't have to pay a vendor fee if they will be staying at the resort. The Dj cost is crazy and don't forget to ask your coordinator about lighting if you're doing an evening wedding outside, they charge for that as well. If you use an outside DJ ask them about lighting because it may be cheaper to do that with them.

@@tiffanyt, our flight on April 23 is not until later in the afternoon so we are doing a late check-out, I will have to take a peek at your wedding set up! That is so exciting! Where did you get your silk flowers from?  Oh, and $7 a napkin? Wow, so crazy. Thanks for letting me know about the vendor fee for our friends who will be taking photos. That at least takes off some pressure with our budget. Also, didn't even think about the lighting outside. I think my fiance wants to scrap the idea of the deck reception now and move it to somewhere that is inside/outside. I guess we can figure that out when we are there in April. Are you using the resorts salon for hair and makeup? Did you do a trial or are you going to do one before the wedding? I'm super nervous about that.

How is your coordinator? I wonder if we will have the same one.

Thanks for all of your help/tips!

Hello all

As Tiffany mentioned earlier there is a Facebook group that has been very helpful just search Hyatt ziva/zilara brides...It's both Cancun and Jamaica

My wedding will be may 132017 at 11am, afternoon wedding. Ceremony at the large wedding gazebo cocktails on the decks and reception hopefully on the ballroom terrace if it's available otherwise we will have to debate on where we want that part

I'm using resort florist I only have 34 guests so five tables is doable. I have no yet received my quote on flowers so I'm expecting it to be quite large :/

As for extras like napkins and stuff bringing all that stuff with me to save money.

I am doing uplights g and they are relative inexpensive I think 150 for four lights but I have to double check

As for hair and make up I did a trial on my big day preview and really thought they did a good job. I like natural make up so nothing heavy and I got an up do. I will use them for the service

Using the resort DJ

@@Harrisc15 that's great!  You'll be able to see my entire set up and if you have questions while your there let me know. My mom actually ordered single flowers and made the bouquets herself I'll ask her where she ordered from. My hairstylist is coming so I won't be using them for hair services and I hired a make-up artist. I did have a  trial during my preview and I did not like how my make-up looked so I decided not to use them. A previous bride I spoke with used them and didn't really have any issues so definitely do the trial while you are there so you can plan ahead. I do plan on using them for a pedicure and I haven't decided what to do with my nails yet so I'm not sure if I'll use them or get my nails done at home.

My coordinator is Julienne. I did have an issue with her early on but that has since been resolved and she has been pretty helpful. Have you been assigned to one yet?

I forgot to mention the food! We did a sit down menu tasting during our preview and it was so good our entrees will be the snapper and jerk chicken. We are doing buffet which I was dead set against but it works out better to do buffet you get more options otherwise everyone would be getting fish and chicken on the same plate or just one choice....I'll live with the buffet

We upgraded to chivari silver chairs

And my planner is Denisha love her always responsive always understanding I think she thinks I'm nuts but she puts up with it lol

@@Harrisc15 it's no bother at all! I'm actually glad to see another bride whose date is close to mine so that we can share ideas  :D .

The ballroom terrace is an open concept from what my coordinator described. The side walls on one side in pictures appear to be low and open with the natural breeze flowing through. I will get to see in person when I go down in April.  I emailed three florists for quotes,

1. Blooming Designs

2. Krafted by Designs

3. Floral Fantasy.

I will let you know when they get back to me and the quote they provide.

I reached to Makeup by Trish and she quoted me $100 for my makeup and $75 for each bridesmaid plus a $150 travel fee. Sue the Makeup girl quoted $120 for my makeup and $80 for each bridesmaid.  Brushed by Nicole quoted me $150 for my makeup plus $55 for each bridesmaid.

My DJ is a friend of my fiance and I. He was coming to our wedding as a guest and offered to DJ our wedding as a wedding gift.  My hairstylist is also a friend who is coming to the wedding as a guest and will be doing my hair for me.

My wedding coordinator is Marcinne and so far she's been really responsive and nice.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
