Hi everyone!

So I got engaged in December and right away I started planning, even though our wedding isn't till July 2017. Of course I already had a Pinterest board from before I was even dating my fiancé so I already had an idea of what I wanted. Oregon is what I want. I love it so much. We went to Portland for vacation last February and I was ready to move there. My fiancé loves it too, and we both would love to live there someday. Anyways...I found the perfect venue and we both instantly agreed on it. He emailed the venue and got prices and more pictures. It was all perfect...until my fiancé suddenly changed his mind.

 

We live in Denver and both of our immediate families live here as well, and of course most of our friends. So when my fiancé started thinking about everyone else having to travel for our wedding he suddenly was against the idea. Honestly a wedding in Colorado is going to be very expensive because we both want a mountain setting with trees, but all the venues like that are in ski towns. Which means the venues are very expensive and so is lodging for our guests. But if we had a wedding in Oregon we're asking our guests to buy a plane ticket, a hotel room and probably a rental car since my venue is on the coast, about 2 hours from the airport.

 

I defiantly see my fiancés point, he doesn't want to inconvenience anyone. But at the same time, I have my heart set on this venue in Oregon. I want my family and friends to see why I love Oregon and I want them to experience it. I want my wedding to be unique and memorable. I know it isn't a trip to Mexico or Hawaii, but it's still a mini vacation for everyone!

 

Whenever we try to sit down and talk about what to do I get knots in my stomach because I know we aren't going to agree. He is thinking of everyone else and I'm being selfish and thinking about what we want. But if someone can't come, that's fine! I won't be mad! I won't hold it against anyone. But is it wrong for me to even ask people to travel out of state for my wedding? Especially since it's just because I love the state and the scenery? Is that not a good enough reason to get married somewhere? How much is too much to expect your guests to spend when traveling for your wedding?

 

Sorry this is so long! I could definitely keep rambling but I'll leave it at this for now!

Congrats on your engagement and upcoming wedding next July, savanaray!!! You'll find lots of great ideas, suggestions and support from everyone at these boards, so you're already off to a wonderful start here :)

 

We've found every wedding is as unique and varied as each couple is, so there are limitless possibilities! One key is to find what works for YOU guys...that's what will lead to your best decisions.

You're planning a whole life together, so this could be a wonderful starting point in working out solutions that work for you both, and finding compromises that serve both of you :)

Welcome Savanaray! Sorry to hear you're in a pickle with choosing the best venue for the wedding. I second everything that Moments that Matter said, and would add one tiny reminder. It's YOUR Wedding!!! Everyone is going to have an opinion about it all. The important thing is that you do what your heart wants and the people who really matter will figure out a way to be there! Plus you're giving them plenty of time to save, plan and budget for it! Good luck & all the best! Happy collaborating and planning ????

Also I'm originally from Breckenridge. If you do end up having it in Colorado, Check out the amphitheater in Dillon (right on the lake... gorgeous!!) or the top of Swan Mountain road. A beautiful pathway that goes and overlooks the lake & 10mile range. Food for thought :-)

Last thought: May, end of May and the beginning of June are far less busy in resort towns. You may look at moving your date to then to save some $$$ and get more bang for your buck :-)

Did you ever thing about doing a mini reception afterwards in Colorado that everyone that cant make it can attend?

I know it adds to the budget but it allows some people that want to come but would have to break the bank the option.
Poll your guests and see what everyone has to say - some may need the vacation lol

      Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!

      Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations.
