Hey Ladies,

Looking for a bit of advice. I will be exchanging some of my money tonight (mostly to USD as we still need to pay the photographer/videographer in USD), but I also wanted to bring some spending money for tipping etc.

Seeing as how USD isn't our native currency here in Canada, and the difference between USD and CAD is pretty substantial right now, i'd rather not lose a ton of money. Wondering if any brides were considering bringing pesos for spending money/excursions/tipping.

Trying to find a bit of a work around.

@acw271011 Can you weigh in a bit?

I only used peso, after all as you said it's their currency :) and with our dollar I figured, heck I can actually tip more with the money I don't lose to the US exchange. What I did though was ensure I tipped in peso what I would have in Canadian. So I didn't give 1 peso for 1 dollar, I gave 10 peso. Trust me they are happy to get their own money so save yours :)

We had to order the peso though as I wanted a lot. So took a couple days to come in. I got to pick my denominations too so could get large or small.

@calgarybride2015 Thanks Kim!!! that makes me feel so much better. I really wanted to try to avoid having to use USD as spending money since it's SO expensive to buy now. I will only be exchanging what I need to pay the photographer/videographer and then paying for anything else in Pesos.

No problem. I feel strongly about this for some reason haha! You may find the odd place doesn't want US or the odd place doesn't want peso. But we had no issues whatsoever :)

@calgarybride2015 I feel like they should never deny their own country's currency.. that is actually ridiculous. haha.

When Palace told me I have to pay in USD I was actually a bit appalled.

I totally agree!  The first time I went to Mexico I had no idea, I just brought USD as my friend told me too. Then I got to thinking about it and was like 'what?'  so for us in January it was only peso.

We had to pay our photographer in USD, but thankfully the wedding was done in peso!  I totally feel your pain. So I say, save yourself some money where you can. :)   Don't think twice about it, really..we had no issues.

@perianjay I am planning on doing the same. I wanted to bring pesos when we went down in Sept but we ran out of time and couldn't get it ordered so we had to go with USD. It was so bad since we only went for four days but still losing that money in the exchange sucks!

Another good option - especially if you don't like traveling with lots of cash - is to take out pesos when you get to Mexico with your credit card at a reliable ATM or in a bank. You need to know which ATMs are trustworthy tho - as there are some that create problems. When using a bank, be sure to bring your passport for ID.

Also - using your credit card for a peso withdrawal at an ATM, gives you the preferable exchange rate that your home bank offers.

Hope it all works out smoothly for everyone - cheers!!! team MTM :)
