do you still register and have a bridal shower?

Recommended Posts

I am going to have a shower put on by my MOH.

I was shocked when people started to ask me about my registry so soon, so my FI and I are going to register at Pottery Barn, Williams Sonoma, Crate & Barrel and Home Depot in January.

I am the odd person out here, I did not want want a shower. I did not want people who were spending a lot of money to come to my wedding to get me any gifts. My bridal party decided they were throwing me one no matter what. Fine, but I refused to register. I felt if I registered I was asking people to buy us things and I did not want them to spend money on us, use that money to come to the wedding. I will admit I had a great time at the shower and I was so happy to see everyone, but still was not comfortable with the gifts part. So, I think its totally a personal thing. If you want a shower and you want to register then you should do that. There are no rules for a DW, we make them up as we go along :)

My aunts and cousin insisted on throwing me a bridal shower and about a week after we announced our engagement they had already booked the place! Our shower will be September 7, 08 which is two months before the wedding. They are going to send out invitations at least a month before, and told me to invite everyone since those who can't make it to the wedding will probably still come to the shower or at least will want to send a gift. We probably won't register until June or so, but we plan on registering at Lowe's, Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel and Target or Kohl's.

I wouldn't have had a shower even if we had a local wedding. Just not my kind of thing. I did register though because enough people told me that we'd get presents anyway so we might as well pick them out.

I think it's OK as long as the emphasis is on having a good time, not presents.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
