Deecol's Planning Thread - Gbp - April 30Th, 2016

I can technically say that I am getting married next month!!!

I had completely intended to get foot jewelry for the ceremony but it completely feel off my radar (and I forgot to put it on my to-do list :S ). My mom sent me this pic today saying she ordered a pair for herself and my sister (my MOH) and if I wanted a pair. So she ordered me one and one for the other bridesmaid :) Something to cross off the list! She ordered them off of dress lily and they should arrive in 3 weeks.

Eek less than 2 months!!! Omg I'm so excited for you, I can't wait to see everything come together.

Your list is totally doable, and most of those can be done with a focused trip to the mall lol In one shot you can get chicken cutlets (la vie en rose has sticky cups that stick all night), Mexico clothes, outfit for bachelorette and lingerie.

For guest book, you can always buy a scrapbook and have ppl take selfies with a Polaroid. Just buy some cute washi tape for ppl to tape their pic to the book and have them sign beside their pic. I saw this recently and it was so cute to see ppl post funny selfies.

And you won't regret the no drinking rule. I didn't feel as dehydrated when I woke up and my face felt more moisturized!

I know @@krystalball @ashhtayy Thank goodness for moms!  @@krystalball You're just over a month away!!!

I keep remembering things that I forgot to add to my list... like Ties for the guys!  How could I forget Ties?!

@@Wafflesmom omg less than 2 months! I can't believe it!  Thank you for believing my list is doable - makes me feel better because looking at it is pretty daunting right now.  I'm still undecided about the guestbook... unless I can find something that really hooks me we might just scrap it all together, I know that's weird but I feel like we'll be okay without one, we'll see...

@@deecol Thanks for the list! Since I'm 3 weeks before you, I checked it against mine to make sure I didn't miss anything!  For the guest book, we are doing a mad libs card, which I plan to scan and make into a photo book. Here is a pic of the card:

@@vancouverpetunia - how am I doing? Am I very far behind?

Thanks for the guestbook idea, it's super cute! We're leaning more towards not having one, unless I find something that I feel I cannot live without! Lol

@@deecol I don't think you are far behind at all! A lot of this stuff I've only recently done or haven't done yet. Here are a few things that I've either recently thought of or I didn't notice on your list, in case they should be:

  • Get summer clothes out, wash them, etc. I'm also going to take Jeff's wedding attire to the dry cleaner. His is very casual but it's brand new, never washed, etc.
  • Do you have your playlist done?
  • Your vows?
  • Photography shot list - to make sure you capture all the groupings, etc. that you want. I think it's easy to miss some in the excitement of the day.

@@vancouverpetunia I've actually ticked a couple things off since I last posted but will do one big update soon. I'm at a bachelorette this weekend (not my own).

Thanks for posting a few things! You girls are the best! Here's where I am with those items:

- summer clothes: I'm going to be buying a lot lol but thank you for the reminder to wash any I'm bringing

- playlist we are about 75% done with picking songs, need to load on the app when we've picked everything, think I mentioned this one. The next two weekends we are hoping to get a ton done.

- vows, we aren't doing personal vows. We both just sort of decided from the get-go that we wouldn't do them.

- I'm printing pictures and making a list for the photographer that we'll go over in our meeting before the wedding, think I mentioned this one too

Thank you again, and anything else you remember please feel free to send my way! You are soooo close now!!! Just over a month!

  • 2 weeks later...

It's been a couple of weeks since I posted my to-do list. My attention has been off of myself lately and more on my best friend.  She was supposed to get married April 2nd, I was her maid of honour... a week ago she got a knock on the door from a girl that her fiancé has been having a relationship with for a year... needless to day she is broken and devastated, the wedding is off of course, and I don't want to even mention anything about my wedding to her right now while she's dealing with this.  She may/may not come to Mexico, which I will of course understand and support either way, I just hope she lets me know soon as she is on my marriage application and I would need to ask someone else to step in and make sure her dress fits them, but she can't face making a decision right now...

While a couple of things have been added to my to-do list, we have definitely crossed some items off too:

Complete:

· Dress alterations (corset added)

· Chose processional, father-daughter dance, first dance (will post when the rest are chosen)

· Picked up beach bags from Total Advantage

· Cake Topper

· Passport renewed (I was a couple weeks shy of the 6 month validity period)

· Bridal Party gifts

· Groomsmens suits sent back with Colin's Mom to England for the guys to have altered

· Wedding wishes and marriage application sent to WC

· Downloaded Wedding DJ App and WedPics App

· Confirmed reception details with WC - dinner from 6-9pm at the Hibiscus Pool, extend until 11pm

· Made nail, pedi, & waxing appointments for the Thursday and Friday before we leave - we leave on a Saturday morning

To Do:

· Receive the remaining 40 beach bags and waterproof phone cases

· Colin's suit alterations picking up his altered suit this weekend along with a dress shirt

· Card Box/Cage – I found the box I want to use, need to turn it into a “card box”

· Find cheap paper fans for chairs at ceremony

· Engrave Col's wedding band, and see if they could do mine (might be too thin?) – going to the engravers on Sunday

· Choose recessional song & document signing songs (2) and the rest of the dinner/reception playlist and download to app – We have chosen all our music, may just need to change the father/daughter dance to a joint bride/father-groom/mother dance, Col needs to ask his mom if she wants to have a dance.  Other than that, everything is chosen and needs to be downloaded and loaded onto the app

  • Bridal Party Entrance:  “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” - Israel Kamakawiwo'ole
  • Bride Entrance: “A Thousand Years” – Christina Perri
  • Document Signing:  “Marry You” – Bruno Mars & “I Do” – Colbie Caillat
  • Recessional (this was all Col and I love it!):  “Higher & Higher” – Jackie Wilson
  • First Dance:  “Thinking Out Loud” – Ed Sheeran
  • Father/Daughter Dance (If isn’t changed to a joint Mother/Son Dance): “I’ll Always be your Baby” – Natalie Grant

· Exchange currency, the dollar has been creeping up slowly so we might start now

· Finish welcome letter, I spy and signage for beach, I want to have a sign that says "Choose a Seat Not a Side" or something along those lines, but worry about where to put it... this is TBD.  I worked the "weekly itinerary" text into the welcome letter, I'll post a photo once these are finished

· Buy a selfie stick for the go-pro, an external iPhone charger, and batteries for the walkie talkies Col has from his Lake Louise snowboarding days, I think the wi-fi situation there is primarily in the lobby and only for an hour so these will really come in handy, especially on the wedding day so we don't bump into each other

· Confirm photo package with the photography company one month before. – Col won.  We agreed on the package with less photos… we still get 4 hours coverage with 110 photos but even I couldn’t justify an extra $350USD for 1 extra hour and 20 more photos, I need to email the photographers and confirm this weekend

· We might scrap the guestbook idea altogether, I picked up a feather pen from Michael's a couple months ago during one of their sales but haven't decided what to do, so we may not do anything at all... again TBD – We decided to scrap this. If something that blows our minds comes along we may reconsider but for now it’s a no-go.

· Paint our table numbers – Col painted these while I was away at my best friend’s bachelorette (the weekend before she got the bad news :(  ) We bought both a champagne silver paint and silver glitter, once he did the silver only he left it for me to see and we both loved how it looked and thought the glitter would be too much

· Make a binder of correspondence with the resort

· Ring box/bag –working on it, we have an idea, stay tuned lol

· Timeline – Col was actually super cute about this, I couldn’t stop laughing.  I guess they do things in a slightly different order in the UK than we do in Canada and he was actually freaking out (in a hilarious way) and “couldn’t have it” because it didn’t “feel like a real wedding that way”.  I’ve never seen or heard of a Groom-to-be so involved in this and it just cracked me right up, so with some minor tweaks, and a very slight compromise from his end, our timeline for our wedding day will be:

  • 12pm-3pm Lunch & Getting Ready (earlier for me), we will have walkie talkies to ensure we don’t bump into each other at lunch, or I may just order room service
  • 4pm Ceremony @ Tulum Beachfront, followed by
    • Toast and Group Photo
    • Guests can head to their rooms to freshen up or to the bar at the Coba resort (closer to the reception)
    • Bridal Party & Parents Photos
    • Dee & Col Photos – 2 locations
  • 6pm Dinner & Reception to start at the Coba Hibiscus pool
  • Once everyone is seated, MC announce parents & wedding party
  • MC announce new Mr & Mrs
  • Bride’s father to make a toast before dinner
  • Dinner
  • Bride & Groom thank-yous
  • Best Man speech & Maid of Honour Speech
  • Cake Cutting
  • First Dance – Bride & Groom
  • Father/Daughter & Mother/Son Dance (TBC – Mother/Son Dance)
  • PARTY
  • 11pm Reception ends, anyone else who wants to continue the party will head to the disco

· MC Script - Finalizing

· Thank you speeches

· Seating Chart – this was a tough one, my parents are divorced and will not sit at the same table… I only have 5 tables so I didn’t have many options.  I figured it out in the end and it all works out really well.  We have 5 (possibly 7 … yay for slackers…) more people still booking so we worked them into the seating plan just incase.  We are working on a way to display this, but it will have to be a last minute thing to accomodate any changes

· Shopping with my sister in a couple of weeks and planning to get

  • Buy a second white dress to change into during the reception if I get uncomfortable
  • Outfit for the bachelorette
  • A blue garter - we're not doing a bouquet toss or the garter thing but I wanted to wear one anyway, and some lingerie
  • Buy chicken cutlet/sticky boob things (I'm sure I nailed the terminology) for my dress
  • Clothes for dinners etc

· Figure out vase situation for the centrepeices - I've asked the WC to send a picture of what they were going to rent us, we may just buy 3 more from the dollar store and bring those

· Send out email to guests regarding wedding day attire Sent this out and included:

  • Wedding Day Attire info
  • Important Dates: bachelor & bachelorette parties and wedding day timing
  • “Don’t forget to pack…”
  • Info about Riviera Maya (Average temp in April and TimeZone)
  • Other important things to remember (travel insurance, vaccines/shots, credit card, drinking the water in Mexico etc)
  • Reminder of our hashtag and our ID for the WedPics app

· Hair Trial – my girlfriend (also my hairdresser and is coming to the wedding) is coming over in a couple weeks when Col isn’t home to try out my hair styles, we also dying my hair the Tuesday before we leave for Mexico

· Book eyelash extension appt

· Continue tanning, started the week before my shower and starting again this week – started tanning again, only once a week, I tend to get dark really fast

· Ties

Added to Checklist:

·         Groom’s Gift - I want to do something special for Colin on our day and have something delivered to him, like a message with a gift or something but I haven’t figured out what yet

·         Centrepieces – while we were going to just figure out vases and use the aisle flowers, we decided to take it into our own hands and I am so glad we did!  We will now use my bouquet included in the package, split into 6 smaller bunches and used only in the aisles.

I wish I could take credit but these premade bunches were at Michael’s and I fell in love, and took advantage of the 40% of floral sale plus 20% off the entire purchase coupon.  I found these adorable heart shaped vases at Michael’s as well.

I completely forgot to post my shoes for the reception months and months ago.  They are nothing fancy, but comfy, cute and were $15 at payless.  I love that they have a strap at the back so I don't have to risk them falling off, and they will be hidden under my dress anyway.

I also completely forgot that I bought these in September (was possibly going to use them for my shower).  They are the cutest little bottles of bubbles from Party City.  I bought 2 boxes (12 in each) and am thinking about either putting them on a random chairs for the ceremony or a few bottles on each table at the reception.  They are about the size of my finger:

As I was typing another one of Colin's friend's and girlfriend booked.  That brings us to 51 people - 49 adults (including Colin and I) and 2 children.

I’m sure I’m forgetting something but that’s all I can think of for now  :)  My bullets are all off the and OCD in me hates that I can't get them lined up lol

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
