Rivierabride's Planning Thread 10/27/15

Recommended Posts

So, I have gone back and forth on whether or not to post a “planning thread”.  Everyone’s seems so elaborate compared to what mine would be, but then I feel silly when fellow brides ask to see what I have planned so far and I have nothing.  So, I am going for it lol

How we met:

Yep, at a bar.   One of my friends and I had made plans to go and see this singer who was performing for his last time before moving out of town.  Little did I know that my friend had met Chris (my now fiancée) previously and had also told him to come out for the night.  Chris had been sick and totally didn’t feel up to going out but decided to anyways.  He walked in that night and I spotted him instantly.  I have always had a thing for guys in ball caps and I think that’s what caught my attention.  Long story short, our friend ended up introducing us and we talked the whole night, to the point I started to lose my voice since I was trying to talk over all the music.  We grabbed a bite to eat afterwards and then said our goodbyes…never thinking I would hear from him again.  But thanks to facebook, we connected and stayed in touch that way for a while.

Two weeks after we met that night, I was heading to Mexico (keep that in mind) with some girlfriends.  I was excited to go away, but bumming because I had just met this guy and now I wouldn’t be able to see him for a week….the thought killed me.  But we made it work…chatted NON-STOP through fb and made plans for me to stop by his house as soon as I got off the plane.  And that’s how our relationship started.

Engagement

Now back to Mexico again.  About a year and a half into our relationship, we decided to go to Mexico – to the resort I had gone to with my girlfriends.  One of the days that we were sitting out on the beach, a wedding was going on.  We looked at each other and just knew…this is what we wanted for our wedding.  So, we talked about how we would just have it be the two of us and keep it nice and quiet.  But I also made it clear, I still wanted the “asking” to be a surprise.  Couple months after coming home from our trip, we booked our wedding day for 10/27/15…seemed so far away at this point.  5 months after we set our date we were vacationing in St. Thomas.  We were on the beach, and I was so excited about these huge birds that were dive bombing the water to catch fish, that I didn’t even realize he was attempting to ask me to marry him.  Once, I figured out what was going on…I ended up crying and saying yes.  Even knowing that it was coming, I still ended up in tears with all of the romantic and sweet things he had to say.

Our Wedding:

When starting to plan, we decided that there were others that we had to have there with us.  So we had planned on having about 15 of us.  Unfortunately, I lost my younger brother back in February and that changed a whole lot of things.  My Dad is not attending, as he says he doesn’t have the money, we offered to pay but he refused to take it.  My mom is going and she will be walking me down the aisle now…and honestly I couldn’t be any more ok with this.  My mom and I were at my brother’s side until he took his last breathe, and our relationship over these past 6 months has really grown.  Others are unable to come for other reasons also, so that leaves us with about 7 total.  Chris’ brother also passed away about 4 years ago, so we decided to not do a bridal party since we don’t have our best men to be there.  I made a frame to have at the table up front with their pictures and a little poem, we know they will be with us in spirit.

Our wedding is being held at 2pm on the beach followed by a cocktail hour with a Mirachi band.  I’m still waiting on the hotel to give me more planning options so we can decide on the rest.  7 weeks from today and I will be Mrs. Minich.  I couldn’t be any happier about this.

The Dress:

I went to David’s Bridal with a list of destination dresses I wanted to try, but there was this one that I wanted to try on last, because I liked it the most in pictures.  I didn’t want to fall in love with the first dress without giving other dresses a try.  Needless to say, the last dress I tried on was my dress and fit me perfectly, minus needing a hem.  I knew I wanted to lose some weight I had gained from losing my brother, so this was now my goal.  Back in July, I went f or my first fitting (after losing almost 30lbs) and the dress needed a lot of work.  This Sunday I go back for my next fitting, I can’t wait to get pictures of it now to compare it to what it looked like when I first bought it.

To think I was worried about not having enough to say.  I am going to post pictures later when I get home, to go along with some of what I had posted.  But at least this is a start…right?    Have to say, you ladies have been so helpful with any questions I had…you guys keep me sane!

Pics to come soon!

Thanks ladies!  The seamstress was not too pleased with the weight loss.  They actually wanted to put me in a smaller size dress but that changed how far the back dropped down, which is one of the things I loved about the dress.  I will definitely post pics on Sunday so you (and I) can see the difference.

so sorry to read about the loss of your brother. I can't even imagine how much that would affect you and your family. Love that you and your fiancé are honouring them at your wedding. I plan to do the same for our grandparents that have passed away.

do you mind sharing where you purchased your real touch flowers? it's an idea i've been thinking about. they look so beautiful. have you looked into the best way to pack them? that's a concern of mine.

good luck with your planning during the next 7 weeks.

Thank you for your condolences.  It's been a rough couple of months - thank goodness for wedding planning it has helped keep my mind off of things.  I will post later the frame that I put together of our brothers.

I got my bouquet off of Etsy. I had found this woman who made the corsages for the mothers, and after seeing how awesome those turned out I asked if she could put together a bouquet to match.  When they showed up....I couldn't have been more pleased.  I am actually going to pack them in the same box they came in.  I can fit the corsages in their too...so this way nothing with get damaged while traveling.  If you are interested in this woman's name...let me know and I can get it for you.   I love the idea of these, it looks similar to the ones I was going to get through the hotel, but these I can now keep.

I see your wedding is 8 months away...congrats!! Wait till you see how fast time goes!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
