Ballet Workout

Yep, it keeps you out of trouble alright and you do make great friends. I didn't really find trouble until I quit! DH says the same thing about football, and we often have the "which is the more difficult workout" debate. Dance is so underestimated! I love when the men on Dancing with the Stars are exhausted and sweating during rehearsal because it shows how strenuous dance is!

Have you heard of the Bar Method? They have a few gyms where I live that utilizes the ballet bar for exercises. I've done a few and they are killer. Never knew such small movements can produce a burn like no other. The classes were $$ so I ordered Fluidity: Fitness Evolved. The workout is just as good...but i'll admit, I haven't done it in awhile.

I've done the yoga booty ballet DVD once. It was a good cardio work out.

 

I also like the Carmen Electra Fit to Strip series.

 

Both are good if you have dance experience so you can use better/proper form.

 

I think that Pilates is the best work-out and it really uses the same muscles that you do when you do ballet. It build long, lean muscle instead of making you bulk up.

 

Those would be my best recommendations, but I guess not really appropriate if you are wanting to dance.

 

Do you have a local community center or ballet company that offers adult classes? My BM is trying to talk me into taking one with her!

I've not heard of Fluidity, I'll look into that further...thanks :)

 

I do like Pilates, in fact I have a dvd I like that is still packed from moving but I need to get it out again. I do want to get into the actual ballet moves again, but that and pilates would be excellent!

I noticed a difference in my butt and thighs the most after only 2 weeks of doing it 4 times a week. You do the movements and then you stretch, so it's like pilates...it's supposed to elongate your muscles.

I was going to mention "The Bar Method" also. www.barmethod.com they just opened up a studio in Chicago. my friend signed up and sent me a free class. I went and OMG it was killer for your legs and rear. I signed up for the "30 day - $100" trial b/c it is really pricey. i figure i'll go 3xs a week and do cardio and other exercises at my normal gym in between. They are only in a few cities though. Jamy - I've never been but my friend has taken (and liked!) the ballet class at LACity College down on Vermont. It's cheap, it meets once a week on Saturdays. I know you're looking for a DVD but I thought I would at least mention it. I think they have it every quarter so if you ever want to do some ballet for not much $$ here it is!
