Punta Cana Newbie

Hi my name is Danielle. I'm planning my wedding for Nov 7 2008. It's supposed to be in Punta Cana but we are having resort issues. We finally picked a resort last Saturday but we are already changing our minds. We were going with the Dreams Punta Cana (formerly Sunscape The Beach). But than I went on tripadvisor and read a lot of bad reviews, realized it wasn't on the Bavaro Beach (I really wanted the white sand beach, I know i'm picky), the wedding cordinator is really hard to get a hold of (much harder than other resorts I've looked at) and when she does get a hold of me she gives me half the info I asked for. My top choice was the Paradisus Palma Real, so i'm hoping we can get a better rate from our travel agent. If not we might start looking in Mexico, somewhere other than Riviera Maya. It's where my sister in law got married and it was really nice but I want to go somwhere a little different. if anyone has gotten married in or going to get married in a Resort in Punta Cana or Mexico, please let me know what you think of your place. I need somewhere that allows kids.

Thanks,

Danielle NJ

Hi Danielle, welcome4.gif to the forum.

First off, I went to STB and was a BM in a wedding there 2 years ago. I agree with you, the WC was very hard to get a hold of, the bride did complain about that, and did not really like her. She said she tried to talk her into things she did not want and did not tell her about most of the options available to her. With that said, my friend is kinda lazy and unorganized and should have done a little research to know what to ask her, it goes both ways.

The beach is not the nicest beach, but its not that bad either. If you have to have the white sand though, then I suggest you look for that.

Do not listen to the terrible review on Trip Advisor. It was a very nice resort and the food was great, people just like to bitch. I actually have a review on there and I think its called "Don't Listen to the Nasty People" because that is how I felt. I have talked to a few people who have been married there since my friend and they loved it.

If your issue is with the WC and the non-white sand beach then I suggest you look elsewhere. If its due to trip advisor, then ignore it, 98% of the people who write reviews on there just like to complain.

I have pictures if you would like to see them. I also saw some very very beautiful set ups for ceremonys and receptions there. The spa is also really great and they did a great job on our hair.

Let me know if you have any questions. Sorry this is so long.

Have you looked at Paradisus Punta Cana? That's where we decided on and Laikin, the WC is easy to work with.

We are honeymooning at the Palma Real b/c it was just too expensive to ask people to come there for the actual wedding. PPC seems exceptionally nice (recommended by by TA) and so far I've been very pleased with the response to my questions, etc.

We have more than 50 people coming, and are getting a lot of free perks as a result of the number of booked rooms.

Jules - if it was just one thing, like tripadvisor than I would probably be fine. But it's just the combination of things. Plus the resort wants to charge us each person an extra $350 for the week because we are such a big group, how strange is that! I think we are going to look for our white sand beach, that I love. thanx for the advice!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
