When To Book The Wedding In Your Week Long Trip

Recommended Posts

Hi Brides,

My Fiance and I are probably going to be booking our trip this coming week or next. We don't have the luxury of talking with the on-site wedding coordinator yet as the resort isn't open.

Our trip gets us there around 5pm on the 3rd of May. My Fiance would like to have the wedding on the 5th of May. Is that too soon after arrival? What type of appointments and planning should I expect upon arrival?

Thanks in advance :)

Kirsteen

Each resort has different rules I think they generally say that you have to wait two days after arrival.  It can be different for Symbolic vs Legal.    I can see why you'd want the 5th of May!  I think you'll be ok.  My resort only had the 12th & 13th.  I had asked for the 11th since we started dating on 11.11.11, but no go.  I took the 12th personally because it's more time to unwind before heading home.

And we leave on the 14th

Personally, I wanted to get the wedding out of the way so I could relax with our guests! (And so I could not worry about tan lines and eating/drinking too much...)

Most of our guests only stayed 4 nights over a long weekend, so we did the wedding on Thursday so we could hang out with everyone Friday and Saturday with no "chores" to handle. We checked into the resort late on Monday and handled everything on Tuesday and then we had a welcome dinner and beach bonfire on Wednesday. We would have been fine if we arrived on Tuesday as well, but Jamaica doesn't have the 2 day requirement to be in the country before getting married. I wouldn't have changed it - Friday everyone strolled down to the pool all hungover and starting drinking again. It was such a relaxing, fun, carefree day! And then Saturday we did an excursion.

Happy planning!

I didn't catch if you are having a legal or symbolic wedding.   If you are having a legal wedding in Mexico there is a requirement of being at the hotel 4 consecutive business days for you and your witnesses.

For a symbolic I do not believe there is a requirement of how many days you need to be there before.

We designed our week so that the wedding would fall in the middle.

Our wedding week was from Wednesday to Wednesday and the wedding day falling on the Saturday.  The majority of our guests stayed for the full week but having the wedding on the sat helped some of guests book a 4 day weekend trip since they could take the entire week off.  It had its perks.

We had a welcome dinner on the Wednesday, bachelorette/bachelor party on the thursday and Friday was last minute things, and prep.  I don't think we could have gotten away with doing it any sooner than that.  Sunday we had a photoshoot and Monday we had an excursion.  Tuesday we relaxed and cursed ourselves for not booking a longer trip, and Wednesday was home time. :)

Good luck with your booking.  How exciting that you are staying at a brand new hotel.

Thanks for all the feedback so far.

We are going to Cuba, and will be having a symbolic ceremony so I'm not worried about any legal requirement. More so worried about having the time to properly greet guests, have the required meetings with the coordinators and settle in.

I'm excited about the brand new resort, but not having access to the coordinator until the new year is leaving me somewhat anxious.

I'm pretty sure only having 1 full day between arrival and the wedding won't be enough, but my fiance is stuck on the 5th of May. It's funny what they get their knickers in a knot about ;)

If at all possible, I highly recommend one day for organization (can be the day you arrive) and one day to greet guests/get all the mechanics out of the way/rehearsal before the wedding. For example, we arrived on a Wednesday and took care of meeting with the coordinator and handed over all of our requests. Our guests arrived mid day Thursday and that day was all about them and making sure they were situated and welcomed. Friday was a great day of bonding and then the rehearsal. Wedding was on Saturday. That might be excessive for some, but I found that it worked out perfectly. By Thursday, I was relaxed and could devote all my time to our guests. For those who could only stay with us for 4 nights, they were still able to take part in all of the festivities and had Sunday to relax before heading home.

Good luck and congratulations!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
