Nkavanaugh Grand Sirenis Planning Thread-May 3Rd,2016

Recommended Posts

Update.. We are up to 71 guests booked now, which is WAY more then I had anticipated. I am thrilled so many people want to come but stressing a bit about favors, I really wanted to welcome bags but now I am not sure if it is affordable, I definitely want to give everyone mugs on arrival but I am not sure what else is really expected as guests are paying so much to spend the week with us!

Also has anyone ever ordered from party city? They have some really cute stuff for weddings I wonder if the quality is  good! I am really wishing I was even a little bit creative at this time! Lol

@@calgarybride2015 do you remember exactly how many people you were allowed to sit at a table!?

71 is unreal!!! Wow!!!

8-10 -- it's your choice and the table size will be done to accommodate. That's for round tables. But if you plan to have a dance floor then I'd do less tables and more people at each :). I had 4 tables and the head table. I could see 2-3 more tables in there then it'd be tight for a large dance space.

Party City has good stuff. I've been in their Calgary store! What types of things were you thinking of ordering?

@@nkavanaugh I really like Party City. I've picked up different things over the last couple of years. Our bubbles that we used at our AHR were from there and everyone loved them! Plus we pick things up for our grandkids' birthdays from there and have never had a problem. My gf wants a dress for Mexico without it really being a BM dress. Might go take a look at lulus. Thanks for the tip.

Argh I know I cant complain about this but I am going to anyway.. our booking is 95 people strong now/ Which is insane I honestly never thought it would happen, and theres a few more that we are pretty certain will book. My issue is I had my heart set on the Palapa, I absolutely love it and its the one thing I knew I for sure wanted with the wedding (besides the groom lol). I just emailed Adriana to check how many the Palapa can hold and the maximum is 100, without a dance follow. I am honestly a little heart broken, I know its petty and really not a huge deal but its just what I envisioned for our reception and I know we will need room to dance (anyone who knows any Cape Bretoners knows we love to "dance"). Has anyone seen any of the other reception venues? Adriana suggested doing the beach but I am not sure if I am sold on it honestly.

Wow - so you could end up going over 100? Yikes! That's a big group for a DW. I'm sure @@calgarybride2015 will have an answer for you since she had her wedding there but have you tried looking for photos on the internet? Sometimes if you type in wedding images with the resort name it will bring up photos to look at. I had a look at lulus.com and I love the styles they have! Very good pricing too!! Did you have shipped to Canada, or did you ship to the US and pick up?

Awe shucks :(  I knew 100 was a bit tight to have a dance floor just from my visual of the place.

Could you maybe have dinner on the beach, but then have some tables/chairs set up in the palapa for the drinking and dancing?  I am sure in the end that may cost some extra money, though I am not totally sure, but it would allow you to get what you wanted -- the palapa.

I know a lot of people who have used the a'la cartes for their receptions but honestly I don't have pictures of it.   Some have it closed for them so they can dance in the restaurant, then some do the private parties after (at beach bqq or health bar locations) but with 100 people that would be tight for space too.

Did 100 people already confirm their deposits so this number is a pretty forsure number or just RSVPs?

That's a huge number!!!!

@@acw271011 I have always had it shipped to Canada, I paid duties once but I had ordered a few dresses I think my total cost was around 300 and I paid about $30 in duties! Which isn't too bad when you think about it!! My sister also got her bridesmaids dresses from there! The quality is fantastic!

@@calgarybride2015 we have 95 who have paid deposits now so we're getting there, air transat gave us an extension until the end of August for our guests which was really nice! I talked to Adriana a bit today (god she is a saint lol) who put me at ease and said we could just use the palapa and pay for furniture and a dance floor on the beach as well which at this point is what we will probably have to do! I totally wasn't expecting that number of people so I am throwing my budget to the wind at this point and will need to come up with a new one lol. Adriana send me a lot of pictures of the beach set up which was really nice so I think I would prefer that as opposed to being inside, I might live to regret that lol. I hadn't thought of the reverse tho dinner on the beach and then dancing in the palapa that's an option as well! I'm sure one way or another it'll work out and be fine I think I'm just going to have to be flexible! The good news is the church holds 120 people!

Hey lady, fellow May '16 Sirenis bride here /fistbump. Love your dress.

I did a site tour of Grand Sirenis venue options. You're probably going to have to go with the semi private beach party option. I know, the palapa location is amazing. But the party area on the beach is pretty nice too. With a group as large as yours you are sure to have an amazing time. Unless it rains.... Speaking of which.. do you know what the emergency back up plan is in case of rain? I don't! @calgarbride2015 do you know?

PS we invited way more people than we hope to see come. So I hope our guest list doesn't explode like yours! I tallied up my list and with kids were looking at about 140 invited. We're hoping for more like 30-60. How many people did you invite? Your wedding and planning is so far ahead of ours. May 12, and our deposit deadline is in October.

Wow that is fantastic they have all put down deposits!!!  I think we invited less people because we feared they would all come -- hahah doesn't that sound hilariously terrible?  We invited around 64 and had 42 come!

To be honest, I didn't have a back up for rain and didn't even ask about it.   What I would assume is that you would have your ceremony in the chapel, then the palapa or the a'la cartes are sheltered.   It won't rain, so don't worry :) :) :)

All the ideas you are throwing around for your wedding locations sound fantastic.  The area by the palapa is gorgeous, so you really can't go wrong with any!!!  You will figure it out.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
