Joannabanana's Planning Thread - May 12Th 2016 - Grand Sirenis

Taken! Ugh. I booked the 19th, but now I'm hoping for October 12th. But that's Thanksgiving. I have to go in to give a cash deposit, I'll ask if they'll do that day when I go in person

EDIT:  I called the Toronto City Hall and they said they could do a quickie "fit in" session for us, since all we want is a legal jobby.  Otherwise I can go to the York Civic Centre on the 12th as well.

We don't have RINGS though... is this a problem?  I called the place where he got my ring.  It's from People's Jewellers, but from their travelling "design your own" event.  So we can't just walk in whenever I want to and get the matching band.  They alternate between a "Signature" event and the "Design Your Own" event every other month or so.  The next Design Your Own is September 22nd.  Which made me want to move the date to October 12th.  But then Thanksgiving.  UGH!  LOL.  Does the ring even matter if it's not the ceremony with vows etc?

@@yycbride2016 from my experience they don't do City Hall weddings here.  On Service Alberta's website there is a list of all the commissionaires you can hire for this service. The lady I used lives over by the Grey Eagle Casino, we did it in her living room for $100.  She filed all the papers for us, we just had to have our marriage license.   I know of 4 other people who used her and I believe she is now $120.     The marriage license cost about $90 and is good for only 90 days so you have to get it at the right time or it will expire.

@@JoannaBanana I am glad you got this all sorted out!! Congrats!!!  In Alberta we didn't need to have rings, but we did have to say vows - that was law.  The person officiating your marriage should be able to tell you all the rules. Super exciting :)

Edit - and by vows I mean the 'repeat after me' part. We didn't say our own or exchange rings.

Atleast our dollar is stronger than theirs, not weaker. I couldn't imagine paying that bill in US funds - I would probably cry!

I only had the photographer and the dolphins I had to pay in US!!!   And thankfully in January it wasn't as bad, that said the dollar did well today! it's up some!

@@JoannaBanana I hear you! Our wedding is on the 3rd and we arrive on the 28th, some of our guests don't get there until the 1st which is why we chose that date but I am super worried about my skin, I generally tan pretty well but my dress has a bit of a plunging neck line which should make for some interesting tan lines lol!

Surprisingly I didn't burn! I totally thought I would, and I didn't go tanning before leaving. I also made sure to put on SPF 30-60 every hour or every time I came out of the water. I stayed in the shade as much as I could and used a hat.

Also, because there was so much running around, we didn't spend as much time on the beach as we usually do, so I think that was also another reason.

Okay so I'm starting to think separates instead, but what do you girls think of these legal ceremony dress options?  I don't really wear dresses very often (except on vacation) and we wanted to keep the legal ceremony casual, so that's why I'm reconsidering even wearing a dress.  Maybe a really nice white top, and a skirt or pants.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
