Ashhtayy's Planning Thread - Azul Fives - June 7, 2016

@@Wafflesmom Oh you better believe I will be writing a full review. I don't want anyone to have to go through the unnecessary stress.

If any brides worry that you're dealing with her too, feel free to private message me and I will confirm. I'd rather leave her name off the threads until we are past our wedding.

And thank you so much for the offer. We still have enough time that I'm not worried about waiting a little bit. I'm all over the GTA for work so I'm bound to find one somewhere other than our local store :)

@@deecol hrmm? You raise a good point. I've never asked if they have the ability to do that. When the coupon comes out next Sunday and I'm in the store I'll check.

@@vancouverpetunia both are cute but I do think the chevron design is a little classier. I think that's the way we will go but no need to rush. I have enough card stock to do both.

Thanks for the opinions ladies!

Cake & Cake Topper

Ordered! (sort-of)

Okay so I really wasn't on board for a cake, mainly because of the cost ($60USD for 6 people - $870USD for 60 people). I had thought about doing cupcakes but that was until I saw the cost - $7USD each. As a wedding guest I never eat the wedding cake and rarely do I eat a cupcake if they are there; Mike's the same. I nibble on the dessert that comes with our meal and that is that.

I mentioned to Nonna that we weren't going to have a cake. She was less than impressed. Here is our compromise - we've ordered the smallest cake the resort offers (16cm length, 10cm height). Obviously this won't feed many but it is more for show and to have the traditional 'cake cutting'.

The flavours are limited because of the size of the teeny, tiny cake but we have to pick from vanilla, chocolate and strawberry. I will pick chocolate, Mike will pick vanilla. He will win on this one.

The dessert that all our guests will be served with our dinner is tiramisu (EW! I think I am the only person that HATES it), panna cotta and fruit tartlet.

I found this adorable cake topper on etsy (BashandCoParty). Here is the image they have on their site (obviously this will be customized with our last name).

Sample Cake Topper

$19.99 for a 6 inch cake copper in gold glitter - shipping is $8.00 - total $27.99CAD

Excited to receive the cake topper :)

Looks great!!! I agree, the cake is partly for show so best to go with a small one if that's it's purpose. I'm on the search for a topper too! I'm trying to find the perfect one still!

@@deecol I always try and limit my search to Canadian Etsy vendors to save on shipping. There are a few different ones that this shop makes - a few with hearts that you can customize with your names? Might match your table numbers well? Take a peak. They had a few others that I liked better, like one that just said 'love' but Mike likes the idea that I am taking his name so he wanted it on the cake topper ;) If you like one from this shop wait and I can let you know how happy I am with ours lol

Awww, I love your cake topper. Your Nonna will be so happy to see you got a cake, regardless of the size. All they really want us for you to stick to the usual traditions. Der one the choice of cake flavour too so ours is red velvet lol.

@@Wafflesmom I was in Orillia today (1.5 hours north of Toronto) for work and drove right by a Michael's. Popped in and of coarse this small town had soooo many marquee M's. I bit the bullet and bought with a 20% off coupon. Holding out for my A during next weeks 50%. Woohoo! lol

5 months today until our Mexico wedding. AHH!

So many emotions. So excited for the wedding week, so nervous for the planning that is yet to be done, terrified that dress fittings start in two short months, nervous about full payment deadline...the list could go on and on.

Thanks to all of you for your support thus far. Fingers crossed for smooth sailing here on out!

@@ashhtayy My wedding date is only just over a month before yours and I feel like I hit that 5 month mark just yesterday, I don't even remember the time between that and the 4 month mark!  Time is seriously flying girl!  But don't stress, still lots of time and you seem very on track with everything  :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
