Grand Sunset Princess & Platinum Yucatan Princess Wedding

Recommended Posts

Hi @@Pottswedding2015

thank you!!  :)   Agreed, I saw some of the options and I just felt they were a little "tropical tacky".  They had a lot of bright colour options and I'm more of a soft colour palette kinda girl.  I spoke with our wedding coordinator and ask about outside vendors and I did mention in our back and forth emails that I would be putting together the bm bouquets.  I don't know if they didn't consider me going to a shop a "vendor" since I was putting them together.  Either way, I didn't have any issues bringing them into the resort.  I came prepared with all my tools and burlap.  I put them together the night before.  I had the time to do it, and they turned out nice.  I made 8 bouquets and 7 centerpieces.  I didn't bother to make the boutonnieres, and my bouquet and gazebo flowers were included in our package.

You booked the same gazebo that we did.  I really think it is a stunning gazebo and the chillout is so pretty.  We didn't order the light up dancefloor.  It was wayyy to expensive.  They have the dancefloor on the beach and it is sooooooo nice.  They have tiki torches all around and chairs for those who want to sit down.  The staff comes around with drinks for everyone. We did hire a dj and that worked out nice.  We did have the option of having the dance floor in the wooden part of the chill out but it was so epic on the beach.  Everyone had their shoes off and was just dancing away.

:)

We flew in our own photographer and he stayed at the princess so we didn't have to pay an outside vendor fee.  His name is Willy Sanjuan http://www.willysanjuan.photos/#!/index/G0000oUB_qBW563E

I had my hair done at the salon at the Platinum Yucatan Hotel and make up was done by one of our weddings guests who is also a makeup artist.  I asked for a very natural look and I loved it!  This site was very helpful even though there weren't many Grand Sunset brides online when I was planning.  It did help to read previous reviews.

I will have my pictures in a few weeks so you'll be able to see it all ! ;)

Sunwing!

I am so impressed with Sunwing and our travel agent!  Not only did our travel agent save our wallets with the extra baggage kg ($400) they also sent us $500 voucher for our next vacation with Sunwing!  I am so pleased - especially since our entire wedding group is already planning #BesosInParadise2016     Yay!!!!

@@veryvalentine I wish I could say I'm loving the travel agent experience but so far ours has been a nightmare! We are also going through sunwing and were told at first that every 10 rooms we booked we would get 1 free but when I asked about how to get that credit the other day my travel agent said sometimes you don't get it until after the trip?! This makes no sense to me... They also told us in the beginning we would be getting a $50 excursion credit for every guest and of course we have heard nothing more about that either. Our travel agent is a complete scatter brain...But we're all booked and it's done so that is what really matters! I can't believe the deal you got though... We are paying $1610 for 1 week in the platinum suites flying out of Vancouver.

I am so excited about my flowers now!!! Making them is going to be sooo much better. I was concerned about not having any centrepieces because I didn't want to pay a fortune for them!

So glad to hear your input on the dance floor to I will for sure go with the dance party on the beach it sounds awesome!

We were at a wedding at the same resort about 5 years ago and it was in the riviera gazebo and I fell in love with it. When I started planning my own wedding I just pictured everything there. I actually can't believe how many brides choose the sunset gazebo! The riviera is so much prettier! Haha

I've emailed the WC and asked to book the chill out but of course she hasn't got back to me yet... Hopefully it's not booked up yet!

I know @Pottswedding2015   !!  Having there so many times I agree that the Riviera Gazebo is much more stunning and beautiful, even with a very simple décor it is so beautiful.  The only advantage that I see with the Sunset Gazebo is that if you are having the Chill out Reception, your guests will already know where to go and won't have to walk to far.

Most of our guests figured out where the Chiill out was however apparently some of my family assumed we were having the reception right beside the Riviera GAzebo where I guess they have beach reception setup if you are not doing the chill out so they almost wedding crashed.  lol

I wouldn't change a thing about how we designed our wedding ! ;)

Who is your WC?

I have never heard of the excursion credit!   that's so great!! :)

Hello :)

We're planning to get married at the Grand Riviera Princess on March 30, 2016. I'm trying to decide between the Riviera Gazebo and the Sunset. Are there usually a lot of people around the Riviera one? And does anyone know if the Sunset Gazebo is far from the Italian or steakhouse restaurants?

Hi @@streelbride congrats on your upcoming wedding!!  It's always so nice to meet other Princess brides!  :)

We had our wedding at 4pm and I honestly can't remember if there were people around.  My sister said that there were a few people that were watching our wedding but they were very respectful and just really in awe of the wedding.  They were loving it.  It really didn't bother me or become an issue with our photos at all.

The Italian Restaurant and the Steakhouse are part of the the main building.  You would need to take the trolly down to either restaurants.  Mama Mia and La Vaqueria are both great restaurants by the way!  :)

@@veryvalentine Thanks :) You're wedding looks like it was beautiful ! I'll have to let my fiance see the photos of the gazebo and let him choose haha, I can't decide.

Do you know if there are any other vendor fees besides the $400pp for photography? We already know about that one and are booking Dean Sanderson. I was looking at maybe getting a makeup artist but not if the vendor fee is too high :( Trying to stay on budget lol.

Thanks again, your posts have been really helpful :)

Hi @Steelbride I am getting married at GSP at the riviera gazebo in December 2015 and also using Dean Sanderson! I am thinking of using the resort spa for my makeup but I am a little nervous...  I  know someone who used them and said they were great and the pictures of it are great but still nerve-wracking! Let me know what you decide on :) also have you made a timeline and decided how long you will have Dean for? Im working on that right now and your input would be great!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
