To Video Or Not...advice Appreciated!

Recommended Posts

Our wedding is  3 weeks from today and I can't believe how fast it's sneaking up on us! :D

From day one we were not planning on having video service at our wedding.  It was even an included option in our wedding package but every video I watched I was left feeling "eh" and that we don't need video.  I also kept thinking that we are going to have amazing photographs to swoon over.  BUT THEN... I was introduced to a specific videographer's work and after viewing his work (@@KayRae <3 I have you to thank!), I felt so compelled to reach out him them directly- seriously, I cried when I watched his videos of strangers- crazy but made me want to have our wedding day captured on film so much more!

Because we weren't planning on having this service, we have not budgeted for it and it's definitely a splurge.   Planning a destination wedding has proven to cost more than we had anticipated and I made some great sacrifices with flowers and decor to keep our wedding budget in check and I keep telling myself that our day will be beautiful regardless. We have an amazing photography team coming with us from home and I know that they will do a magnificent job photographing our day and we will have those memories to look back on.

I'm just not sure what to do and would appreciate thoughts and advice from other brides.

I'm probably not the best one to answer. I think it's great to have a video of some sort as the day is a blur and it was great to actually see what happened at the ceremony. That said, I've watched it 6 times in 6 months so not sure I would blow your budget over it. If it's included in your package use that route or have a friend videotape it. That's what I had - someone taped it and I had no idea. Hindsite I'm super glad!! But again unless this is super important to you I wouldn't blow your budget. Use what's included still if you can. But if you really feel it's important to you, then you can't go wrong splurging. Just depends. See wasn't much help lol. Congrats. 3 weeks will fly by.

Wow! 3 weeks away!!!! So excited for you! And yes the time will fly by! You already know my thoughts since we have discussed the issue before so probably not much help either. And I had the same experience as you watching Carlos' work, crying like a baby watching complete strangers get married, even those spoken only in Spanish, and that's how I knew that he was the one! But it was an easy decision for me because I was planning for video in the budget from the beginning and his prices were competitive if not cheaper than other quotes I received. We are almost 6 months out from our wedding and I personally love watching our videos quite often, including the full length film that we received a month and a half ago, even if that makes me seem a little crazy lol. Hopefully some other brides, past and future, will be able to give you some valuable insight to help you with your decision. :)

I'm in the same boat. I've almost decided but since it's not our wedding I'm trying to figure about justifying the expense. I found someone from here and like his stuff, the price is really very good.... But just not sure if we really need it. I still watch our wedding video every once in a while since its on my desktop of my computer. I just click when I feel like watching...

For you since its your wedding I would definitely give it serious thought if you're that much in love with the video company. It's a great thing to have so if there is a way to swing it budget wise I say go for it.

We did not hire a professional videographer because the cost for video of ONE day of our amazing trip wasn't where we wanted to spend our money. We bought a GoPro and we are currently going through so much video of the entire week to edit into a video we can share with our guests. There is so much fun stuff on there!

We did have someone record the ceremony on the GoPro as well and it turned out great! It records in high definition and the sound quality is perfect - you can hear the whole ceremony even though it was crazy windy. Not professional, of course, but definitely will give us a way to relive the memories.

Trust me, all those feelings will come rushing back when you watch the video...whether it is professionally done or not!

we are going with video and I'm so happy that we are :). It is so nice to look at old videos. In my opinion they offer a little more than a picture does. We didn't spend too much on it, but I thought it was important and I think we will be glad to have it afterwards :)

  • 3 weeks later...

The video line item was a big debate for me. Given all the other expenses, I found it hard to rationalize the high cost of a videographer for just one day. That being said, a pictures capture events is such a different way than video footage, so I really did want both. We're getting married in Antigua and having events over a series of days (welcome dinner, bonfire, wedding day), and I ideally wanted all of these events to be captured. After doing much research, I decided to go with WeddingMix. It will allow the entire weekend to be captured through the prospective of many people that I care about deeply. This feels much more personal and intimate to me. As my to-be husband and I look back at our wedding weekend years down the line, I think we'll be so happy that we have this video with video notes to us from our guests that also captures the entire weekend through the eyes of our friends and family.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
